Summary:  The fourth installment in the Mr. Webster series.  This is focusing on Dana and Ian and her wanting to find her birthmother.  This is set in 1995.

Family - Three Generations

Dana and Ian Tork have been married for 3 years now, and Dana has just found out that she is pregnant with their first child.  They are both so excited, since they have tried for the last 2 years and were beginning to wonder if she would be able to conceive, or would have to try other methods to get pregnant.

She has been starting to wonder about what her birthmom was like, and what the family history is for illness, behaviors, etc.  Dana's mom and dad, Carla and Davy, have told her ever since she was younger that if she ever wanted to find her birthmom they would give her full permission to do so.  She also has talked to Ian about this, and he is more than happy that she is considering doing this.

She knew that she would have to start by asking her mom and dad where she was adopted and any other information such as the lawyer they used when she was adopted.  So she decided to head over to their house and have a talk with them about it.

She knocked on the door to their home and Carla answered the door.  Carla was beginning to show a little bit of gray in her raven hair, but she looked great for her age of 49, still fit as a fiddle and kept up with her kids, sometimes better than them!

"Hi honey!  Come on in!" Carla hugged Dana, and then took her hand to lead her into the living room.

"Hi mom!  I need to talk to you and dad about something.  Is he here?"

"No, he's not.  Dad is with Micky, Peter, and Mike on a business trip.  They are meeting with record execs in Nashville about a new album."  Carla said, as she sat down on the couch and crossed her legs.  "Come, sit down Dana.  You need as much rest as you can, you know."

Dana sighed, already getting tired of all the advice about getting plenty of rest, since she was only 12 weeks along.  She sat down and replied, "Nashville?  Why not here in LA?"

"I don't know.  Dad thought that was strange also, as did the rest of them.  But I don't argue, they may be recording a new album not long from now, their first in 23 years!"

"That is great news!  Anyhow, I can talk to you alone on this then..."

"What's up, honey?  You know you can talk to me about anything."

"I know.  But somehow this still seems difficult for me.  Anyway, here goes.  What can you tell me about the adoption agency, and what went on?"

Carla knew that Dana would eventually want to know, and they always said that they would give her full permission.  She still feels the same way, but somehow she is feeling a bit saddened at hearing this.  What if Dana finds her birthmom and they end up having a wonderful relationship?  Would she lose her bond with Dana because of it?  Well, she shouldn't jump to conclusions, she knew in her heart that Dana loves her and Davy and wouldn't replace them for her real mother.  Carla knew that Dana had to do this, so she lived up to her word and spoke.

"Your dad and I went to a local agency.  It was a public auction, we didn't know who the woman was that gave you up for adoption.  We had filled out the paperwork and had to wait.  It was 15 months before they called and said there was a one month old girl at the orphanage available for adoption, and were we still interested.  We were and we went to the adoption agency with our lawyer to sign all the paperwork.  You were adopted in September 1970."

"Okay.  Do you remember who the lawyer was?"

"Yes, it was a lawyer that your grandpa Frisbee had hired.  The adoption agency asked if we needed a lawyer, since most perspective parents request ones from the agencies.  We didn't need one though, and your grandpa wanted us to have a lawyer that he already knew.  His name was Mr. Raymond Simonson."

"Thanks so much, mom!  Oh what was the name of the adoption agency, and do you know if they are still around?"

"Anytime, Dana.  The adoption agency's name?  Hmmm, I think it was called Open Arms Adoption Agency.  I am not sure if it is still around, do a check in the phone book and see if they are listed there."

"I will start with a search of the phone book then."

Dana started to get up from the couch, when Carla stopped her.

"Dana, wait.  I want you to know that you shouldn't enter this with utopian ideas of how this is going to turn out.  If you do find your birthmother, remember she may not want to see you.  If she does, that is great, and I will be so happy for you.  But I also want you to know that this may not turn out the way you want it to.  Just enter this with a cautious attitude, but an eager one as well."

Dana looked at her mother with wide eyes.  She hadn't thought of this before.  What if her real mother didn't want to see her?  How would she take this rejection?  Should this be something that she should do then?  She then realized that she needed to do this, mainly for the sake of knowing what she is like, what kind of family history there is, and why she gave her up for adoption.  She knew she had to be strong to handle all of this, and she was sure that she actually could go through with it.  She has a strong support team on her side.  She knew that Ian and her mom were 100% behind her, and she was pretty sure that her dad would be.

"Okay, mom.  I will make sure I am careful about the whole thing.  I know that I have you and Ian to support me.  I am sure that daddy will too."

Dana left to go home and look up in the phonebook to see if the adoption agency was still there.

Chapter Two

She got home a few minutes later, and decided to look in the phonebook while she could.  Ian was at University teaching a class (he was a professor of music history), so she figured she would try it now before she had to get dinner started.  Besides, she had to be at work the next day at the Los Angeles Zoo where she worked with the dolphins.  She took care of them, and she was also in charge of the communication studies there, using the special sonar machines to find out their speech patterns and trying to decipher what they are communicating to each other.

She looked in the Yellow Pages under adoption agencies and found nothing.  The closest she found was Arms Wide Open Adoption Services.  She started to get discouraged, but then stopped herself.

":I can do this.  I can't quit now, I mean I just started.  Let's give this one a try and ask if they used to be called Open Arms Adoption Agency." She said to herself, shaking off the defeat that she was briefly experiencing.

She was nervous as she dialed the number on the cordless phone.

"Hello, this is Arms Wide Open Adoption Services, may I help you?"

"Um, yes.  Did this agency happen to have another name at one time?"

"No, it didn't.  This agency has been around since 1972.  Why do you ask?"

"Well, I was adopted from an agency called Open Arms Adoption Agency back in September 1970.  I am interested in looking for my birthmother, and I know that I need to go to the original adoption agency for any information."

"I remember that agency.  It is still called Open Arms but they relocated to San Diego back a number of years ago."

"Oh I see.  Thank you very much for the information."

"You're welcome!  I wish you luck in your search.  Remember you will have to request information in writing, and there will be forms to fill out."

"Thank you for the well wishes and thank you for all your help."

"Happy to help out.  Good day."

"Good day."  Dana hung up the phone and realized there is going to be a lot of work ahead of her.

---

After Ian and Dana finished their dinner, Dana decided to go onto the Internet to see if she could find out some information on Open Arms, and a phone number.  The Yellow Pages was just starting to post listings on the internet in Southern California, so she was glad that she was able to access the information in her own home.

Dana typed in Open Arms Adoption Agency for the yellow pages in the San Diego area, and bingo!  It appeared on her computer screen.  Dana gave out a screech of joy and hugged Ian tightly.

"I've found it Ian, I've found it!  I'm gonna get up and do the happy dance!"

Ian laughed and replied, as he was pointing to the screen, "Um, Dana?  You should write down the address and phone number first before you do the happy dance!  Remember, the internet gets cut off within 4 minutes if it's not used!"

Dana stopped her happy dance and hopped over to the chair.  "Oh yeah, you're right!"

She got the pen and jotted down all the information.  While she was on the computer, she decided to find out if the State Department of Social Services had a website.  They did, and she read all the information about the adoption agency only being able to give out nondescriptive information with a written request of her name, birth date, and the full names of her adoptive parents.  The signature has to be notarized by a Notary Public.  She scrolled down and noticed that she can have the original agency arrange a contact between the adoptee and the birthparent, but both have to sign a Consent for Contact form.  She stopped dead in her tracks upon reading that.  How would she be able to get her birthmothers consent if she doesn't even know who she is???  She started to cry, and Ian put his arms around her.

"Shhh, don't be discouraged, Dana.  We have our faith in God to get us through this.  If it is meant to be, He will find a way to make this happen."

"I know, Ian." Dana sobbed into his shirt. "But it just doesn't seem right.  They should be able to let me know the information as to who my birthmother is.  Why all the mystery?  I am an adult you know!  I can understand if I was a child and the information would need to be sealed up, but I just want to know who she was, you know?!"

"I know.  Don't give up, Dana.  I think you should still go through the steps.  You never know what will happen if you don't try."

Dana dried her tears and replied, "You're right, Ian.  I knew that this wouldn't be easy and that there would be obstacles along the way.  I am going to keep this search up and I am determined to find my birthmother!"

"You go, Dana!" Ian cheered.  "But how about we call it a night.  You need your rest so that you can be nice and refreshed.  Start your search again in the morning before you leave for work."

They turned off the computer and headed for bed.  Dana prayed for the Lord's guidance and will for the situation before she drifted off to sleep.

Chapter Three

The next morning before she left for work, she picked up the cordless and dialed the phone number of the adoption agency.  She was so nervous, her palms were sweating intensely.  It rang twice and a pleasant sounding woman answered.

"Good morning, Open Arms Adoption Agency, may I help you?"

"Good morning.  My name is Dana Tork, and I am interested in finding my birthmother.  My parents said that I was adopted through your agency when you were located in Los Angeles."

"Okay, when were you adopted?"

"In September 1970.  I was a month old.  I came from an orphanage, and my parents said it was a public auction, they didn't know the woman who gave me up."

"You will need a letter stating your name, birth date, adoptive parents, and your signature will need notarized by a Notary Public."

"I read about that in the website at the California Department of Social Services.  I also read that you can only give me nondescriptive information?"

"Yes, ma'am.  I can give out main information, but not the name of birthparents or current addresses.  However, we can arrange a meeting, but there needs to be a consent form signed by both the adoptee and the birthparent or parents."

"I read that as well.  The thing is, how can that work out when I have no idea who she is and if she is even wanting to look for me or wanting to see me?"

"That is all a chance you have to take.  It's not always sunny and roses when it comes to finding who gave you up for adoption.  Sometimes the reunions can turn into wonderful relationships.  But many times there are hard feelings from not just the adoptee or birthparent, but from family members as well."

"I have heard that.  My mom has warned me about that, but she is all for me finding my birthmother, as is my husband, and my father is also.  I am having a baby in a few months and I have gained this curiosity to find out who she is, family history, and why she gave me up in the first place."

"Many go through that, especially women.  I can send you the form to fill out, and I can also give you the nondescriptive information once you send me the Notarized letter.  I can say that we can let the person who is your birthmother know that you are interested in looking for her and see if she is willing to sign the consent form for a meeting."

"Really?  Oh thank you, please send me the form, and I will get the letter to you as soon as possible."

"You're welcome, Mrs. Tork.  Have a wonderful day and I hope that all the best comes out of your search."

"Yes, me too.  Good bye."

"Good bye."

Dana hung up the phone, instilled with some hope, more than she had last night before she went to bed.  She told Ian the hopeful news and they were going to go find a Notary Public as soon as possible.

---

Two weeks had passed, and Dana was awaiting the nondescriptive information to come in the mail.  They had gotten the letter notarized a couple days after the phone call and sent it out a day later.  She also signed the consent form as soon as that arrived, and got that out the next day.  So she was awaiting any news on if her birthmother was even interested in meeting the daughter she gave up for adoption almost 25 years ago.

One evening, after coming home from work, Dana got a surprise in the mail.  It was an envelope from the adoption agency.  She ripped open the envelope to look at the contents she'd been impatienty awaiting.  Ian came in a couple minutes later and noticed she was anxiously reading something.

"Is that the information you've been waiting for?"

"Yes, it is!  This is so exciting!  Listen to this:  She was only 19 years old when she gave birth to me, and I was brought to the orphanage when I was 3 weeks old.  I was born in Malibu, and there is no information present on the birthfather.  It says that she was a waitress and she had graduated from high school.  Her health seemed to be good at the time, she was 5'3, with auburn hair and green eyes, and fair skin."

"Wow, she was a waitress eh?  I wonder where?  Wow, you have a couple of the traits, like the green eyes and fair skin.  But you also have dark hair, and are 5'10"."

"Well, my father must have had those traits, or maybe another member of my mother's family...  I do know now that she was single and probably couldn't afford or was too scared to take care of me."

"Well, do you want to know more?" Ian asked.

"Yes, I do.  I still want to see if the agency can arrange a meeting between us.  I would like to meet her, even if we don't get along or whatever the turnout."

"Okay, you know I am with you 100% on this Dana.  I just want to make sure you are 100% okay with this."

"I have never been so sure about this in my life, Ian.  I love you for being so supportive, do you know that?"

They kissed and then went into the kitchen to make some dinner.

Chapter Four

About two months later, Dana received a phone call from the agency.  She was so excited that they called, she was beginning to wonder if they even found her mother to get permission, or if they forgot about her.

"Hello?"

"Hello, is this Dana Tork?"

"Yes, it is.  How may I help you?"

"This is the Open Arms Adoption Agency.  Remember a couple months back you had requested information for nondescriptive information, and also to see if your birthparent gave consent to meet?"

"Yes, I have been wondering if you forgot about me or if she didn't want to meet me!"

"Well, it took quite some time to get hold of her, Mrs. Tork.  Happily, we finally did and she has given permission for a meeting."

"Oh, yes!!  Thank you so much!!!"

"Mrs. Tork, I want to let you know that while this might be a joyous occasion, there may also be setbacks and many emotions to sort through that can cause serious damage.  We suggest you seek counseling or have a strong and caring support system throughout this whole process."

"I have a strong support system, my parents and husband are backing me up 100%, no matter what happens."

"Okay, I just wanted to give you the options, since this is a very emotionally charged subject and process.  We will arrange the meeting, but it is completely up to you and your birthmother to meet, nobody from the agency will be there.  Is that okay?"

"Yes ma'am, I am ready for this.  I have been wanting to meet her and even if it doesn't work out, at least I could say I knew who she was.  Thank you so much for all your help!"

"You're welcome.  You will both be meeting at Malibu City Park by the benches facing the beach.  We fixed the meeting for there since you both live near to Malibu.  Her name is Carie Applegate and she has medium auburn hair with a bit of gray in it.  She said she will be wearing a green sweater, tan colored pants, and will have her hair in a green bow.  The meeting will be in two days."

"This is great, thank you!"

"I wish you the best, Mrs. Tork.  Remember to keep this all in perspective, and have an open attitude.  Good bye."

"Good bye."

---

Dana arrived at the park two days later.  It was a beautiful afternoon, full of sunshine, and warm.  It was just turning autumn, too bad that there aren't many leaves in Southern California to turn colors, it would've added to the pleasantry of the day.  Dana was praying that this was an indication of how the meeting would turn out.

As she looked around, she spotted a woman who matched the descriptions that the lady at the adoption agency gave her.  She was a beautiful woman, not overly gorgeous, but a down to earth beauty.  Dana noticed that she kept herself neatly dressed and she seemed to keep her composure.  She was sure that she was just as nervous as she was.  Dana nervously approached the woman and said,

"Ms. Applegate?"

Carie Applegate quickly turned around, a little bit startled, but she knew who that could be.

"Yes?  Are you Dana?"

"Yes I am.  I am so glad to meet you finally Ms. Applegate!"  Dana extended her hand to shake Carie's, she didn't want to go overboard with hugs just yet.

Carie smiled from ear to ear as she took a good look at the girl she gave up for adoption so many years ago.  She had her fair skin, her green eyes.  But she looked so much like him, it seemed eerie.  Still she was so delighted to finally be reunited with her, she was hoping that they would get along and become friends eventually.

"Please Dana, call me Carie.  I am so glad and thrilled to finally be reunited with you!  Let's sit here so we can chat, get to know each other."

"Okay Carie.  Um, where do I start?  I should tell you about me before I get to asking the question that has been intriguing me for quite some time.  I just turned 25, I am married to a wonderful man named Ian Tork, who is a music history professor at college..."

"I'm sorry to interupt Dana, but did you say Tork?"

"Yes, I did...  They did tell you my last name on the phone right?"

"Yes, they did, but it never clicked until now.  Is your husband related to Peter Tork?"

Dana smiled, probably figuring she was asking because of The Monkees success, past and recent.  "Yes, he's my father in law.  Why?"

Carie's face turned a shade of pale.  "Well, I knew him and the other Monkees way back when they were playing the Bang Shang A Lang club in the late 60's."

"Wow, you did?  That's awesome!  Well, guess who my parents are?  Davy and Carla Jones!"

Carie couldn't believe it.  She was adopted by Davy, and her father in law is Peter.  This was not going to be easy, breaking the news to her of her father, but she knew it had to be done.  She would wait until Dana was done telling her about her life so far.

"They are?!  Wow, this is all too strange... It sure is a small world, isn't it?  I was friends with the band, since I waitressed there.  They were goofy guys, they were!  I remember your mom too, they were just married when I worked there, if I can remember right.  Anyhow, please continue."

"Well, my parents are Davy and Carla, and they are the best parents, they raised me right.  Ian is the best guy in the world, he treats me so well, and all three of them were behind me 100% in finding and meeting you."

"That's great that your husband and parents are so supportive.  I just hope that if things work out between us, they will all continue to be supportive.  I have heard about jealousy sneaking in between the birthmother and the adoptive parents."

"I know, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.  I am just wanting to get to know you now and see where it leads.  Oh and another thing, I am 21 weeks pregnant with my first child!"  Dana proudly rubbed her protruding belly.

Carie smiled and said, "Wow, that's so great, Dana!  Do you and Ian know if it's a boy or a girl, or are you keeping that a surprise?"

"We are keeping it a surprise, but we are starting to pick out names already, and are starting to decorate the nursery.  This prompted me to search for you, I wanted to see what you looked like, what your personality was, any health history, and to see if there could be a friendship come out of this."

"I never really looked, but I have always thought of you.  That is why I gave the consent, I wanted to see you too.  I wanted to see how you looked, see what you have done with your life, and to see if we could become friends through time."

"It's your turn Carie, to tell me your story. I'm all ears!"

Carie was petrified, now knowing who her dad and father in law are, how was this news going to sink in with her?  This really was going to make matters a whole lot more complex once she finds out her birthfather's identity.  She took a deep breath and went for it.

"I was a waitress at the Bang Shang A Lang, like I had mentioned earlier.  I was 18 years old, just out of high school and on my own.  My parents believed in being self sufficient once out of high school.  I wanted to go to college, but I had to work to earn the money to get there.  Since I was great with people, I took the waitressing job, plus I was a go-go dancer on the side so I could earn a few extra bucks.  That was where I met The Monkees.  They were all so talented, and so funny!  I hung around them as often as I could, so I worked as much as they needed me, which was usually 6 nights a week.  Anyhow, Mike Nesmith and I casually dated for about six months.  We had a passionate thing going on, we had sex every time we were together.  The relationship ended up fizzling because of a couple things.  The first being that our relationship was based on sex, and not getting to know each other personally, and the second was because I became pregnant and when I told him about it, he said we were through and he wanted nothing to do with me.  I was hurt and felt betrayed.  I knew that the relationship was not a good one, but I figured we could try to make it work for the sake of the baby we created.  I really felt that I loved him and that I could make it work.  I guess he didn't feel that way, and just brushed me and my unborn baby aside.  I was determined to keep you, and I did for 3 weeks after you were born, but I couldn't afford it since I was on my own.  My parents wouldn't help me, they pushed me away, calling me all kinds of nasty names.  To this day, we don't get along.  I've tried, but they won't talk to me.  I never meant for anything to happen like it did, Dana.  I had always dreamed of having a husband, a family, and a nice life.  Instead I had to give up the child I so desperately wanted to keep, and never got to be with the father, the man I knew I could love and keep if he gave me the chance.  I am not a slut, Mike was the first man I was ever with.  In fact, I haven't been with anyone since.  I just don't feel that I could find anyone to share my life with, I'd probably screw it up again."

Dana didn't know what to think.  Mike Nesmith is her birthfather???  Man, this is one twisted story, she thought to herself.  Dana had always gotten along so well with Mike, he was there for her a few times when things were rough and she needed someone to talk to when Ian or her parents weren't around.  How will things change once Mike finds out?  She will need to do a DNA test though to prove that he is in fact her birthfather.  Would he agree to do that?  She doesn't blame Carie, she's just shocked that things had seemed to stay in the Monkees' circle.  Her dad is Davy, her father in law is Peter and her birthfather is Mike.  The only one who doesn't play in this is Micky...

"Dana, are you okay?  If you don't want to meet me again, I understand.  When I found out that your father is Davy and father in law is Peter, I panicked because I wondered how you would take the news of Mike..."

"No Carie, it's okay.  I am glad to know what happened.  This is all just strange to me...  I need to talk to Mike about this, I need to get him to consent to a DNA test.  He is so stubborn from what my dad and Peter tell me, and from what I've seen, I don't know how I will convince him.  I don't even know how he will treat me once he finds out.  He has been so nice to me before, he helped me out sometimes when I needed it."

"I am so sorry Dana.  I hope that we can meet again?"

"Oh yes, I'd love that Carie.  Let's meet again in a couple days?  I have to work tomorrow.  I work at the Zoo with the dolphins, doing communication studies and taking care of them.  How about meeting me here again?"

"Yes, I'd love that.  Your job sounds wonderful!!  We'll talk more about things in a couple days then."

Chapter Five

That night, Dana got home and immediately told Ian what was going on.  Ian was flabbergasted that Mike was her father, but supportive still on her and Carie getting along, telling Mike the news, and hopefully him taking a test to prove that he indeed is her father.  Dana was worried also about her mom and dad and how they were going to take all this, especially her dad!

Dana laid on the bed that night, starting to cry uncontrollably.  "Oh Ian!  Maybe I should've never done this!  I mean, I'm glad I know now who my birthparents are, and that I met Carie, but this has just stirred up a whole lot of trouble and confusion.  I pray that this doesn't break The Monkees and their friendships up in any way.  Look how long it took our dads' to make up and become friends again...  And how is this going to affect our child?  He or she will have 3 sets of grandparents if you think about it. Talk about our child living in a world of confusion!"

Ian held her tightly as they lay in the bed, trying to comfort her and reassuring her that she made the right decision no matter what.  "Dana, don't feel guilty about it.  I know this is going to be difficult for all of us since most of us are involved, but I believe with all my heart that eventually it will be sorted and things can be normal, at least normal for this big extended family."

Dana knew her husband was right, but she still felt the pangs of guilt and figured she was going to feel them until this thing is settled down - whenever that is.  She kissed him goodnight and looked forward to her next meeting with Carie.

---

A couple weeks have passed, and Dana and Carie have seen each other 8 days already.  They have many things in common, and seem to get along really well.  Today is the day that Carie gets to see Davy and Carla.  This is the first time she has seen them since the days at the Bang Shang A Lang, so she is very nervous.

Davy and Carla are awaiting their arrival, and they are both feeling rather nervous themselves.  They both remember her from the club, and are curious as to how she looks now after all these years, and if she looks or acts anything like Dana.

Just then, the doorbell rang.  Carla smoothed her skirt and walked as casually as possible to the door.  She opened it, and standing there was Dana and Carie.

"Hi, mom!" Dana chirped as she and Carie entered the living room.

"Hey Dana!" Carla replied.  "Hi Carie, it's been a long time, hasn't it?"

Carie shakily answered, "Yes it has Carla.  How've you been?  It's amazing you remember me.  I remembered you right away as well."

"We did see you an awful lot at the club, from what I can remember." Carla said, noticing some resemblance between the two.

"I know, I worked there 6 days a week.  Mainly because The Monkees were playing there." Carie replied with a grin, looking towards Davy. "Hello Davy!"

"It's so good to see you Carie!  So you had a crush on us, eh?"

"Yeah, I did, but it was mainly because you guys were all so goofy and the music was really terrific!  It still is."

There was silence for about five minutes, no one knew what to say, it was so awkward for everyone.  Finally Davy broke the silence.

"Carie, I want you to know that I am all for you and Dana to get to know each other, and hopefully to become friends.  We were always open with Dana and our other two children who are adopted that if they wanted to find their birthparents we would do whatever it took to help.  I'm sure I can speak for Carla as well when I say this..."

Carla nodded and replied, "Yes, I am very glad that you both have found each other, I think it's great that you are trying to get to know each other after 25 years of separation.  Carie, you are welcome at our home anytime.  Mi casa es su casa."

Carla was overjoyed at the fact that she was so welcomed. "Thank you both, you don't know how wonderful this is for me to be accepted.  It's been a tough life for me, but I think things are starting to turn around!"

They all continued to talk, and Carie told her story of what went on.  As she was telling the story, Carie grabbed Dana's hand, since she had to spill the news of Mike, hoping for the best.  After she explained the whole story and revealed the father's identity, Davy and Carla didn't know what to say or how to feel.

"Mike is Dana's natural father?" Davy exclaimed, but more in a surprising tone than an angry one. "I don't remember him dating anyone back then, I sure don't remember seeing you both together."

"It's because he didn't want you guys to know we were having a relationship.  I don't know if he was ashamed of it or what."

"All I can say is wow...  This whole situation is so complex, I mean Mike has known Dana all her life and he doesn't even know that he's the biological father!  Plus now she has two dads that are good friends, like brothers.  Her father in law is my best friend...  Yikes, this is just too much!" Davy scratched his head, trying to keep the whole thing straight.

"I am so sorry.  I hope that I am still welcome here, now that all has been revealed?" Carie shyly asked.

"Oh yeah, hey that all happened almost 26 years ago, how were you to know then that you would have to give up your child for adoption and that the parents would be us?  It's not your fault Carie.  We want you to stick around, become part of the family."

"Thank you Davy.  This means the world to me, it really does.  Carla, how do you feel about this?"

Carla had mixed emotions.  "I feel the same way as Davy does, but I feel angry, I can't believe Mike was that way.  He should've never dumped you like that.  He should've been proud to introduce you to us back then.  He was acting like a total cad.  But of course, if that would've happened, we wouldn't have had the great daughter that we have today.  It's just all so confusing, so unreal."

"I know, I flipped when I found out that you were her parents and Peter and Vicki Sue were her in-laws.  I feel though that this was all meant to be this way, I am so glad that you both became her parents, you did a fine job."

They all proceeded to figure out how to tell Mike, for they all knew what a hot headed man he could be.  They also discussed how they could convince him to get a DNA test for proof that he is indeed Dana's biological father.  They all came to the conclusion that this was definitely going to be a challenge and that they would just have to tell him, hope for the best, and constantly remind him about that test.  He gets bugged so much than usually does it.  With a grudge of course, but he does it.

Chapter Six

A week later, and still nothing has been brought up to Mike.  They are all nervous about this, and frankly, they are scared.  All of them know about Mike's temper - they were hoping that there would be no violence once he knew.  He's been known to punch holes in walls, and he even threatened to deck Peter once when he got to be "too annoying" to him.  He needed some serious anger management classes, but of course he was too stubborn and too proud to ever admit to that.

Dana knew she was the one who had to announce what she had found out.  Oh boy, this is going to be just grand, she thought.

She drove up to Mike's modest home out in Santa Barbara, where he was living since he and Cissy divorced two years ago.  Cissy had never had to live the experience of Mike being out on the road, and she couldn't handle it.  She constantly thought that Mike was having affairs with groupies, when honestly it wasn't true.  Still, she suffered a nervous breakdown, and ended up calling the 19 year marriage quits.  His children are 19, 16, and 14 now, and the two younger ones live with Cissy, who's doing much better.  His oldest lives on his own, he is a musician and college student.  They all get along with Mike, but the youngest two decided to live with their mom.

Dana sat in her VW bug for what seemed like an eternity trying to think of how she was going to break it to him, and how to react to his reaction.  Finally she went to the door and rang the bell, going for it.  If he didn't like it, she decided, too darn bad.  It was the way it was and tough crunchies if he got angry.  He made his bed, and it's about time he was to lie in it.

Mike answered the door, dressed in a western shirt, jeans, and a cowboy hat.  He smiled as he saw it was Dana standing there. "Howdy Dana! What brings you to this neck of the woods?"

"Hey Mike, I thought I would drop by to say hi, and to tell you something very important that you need to know."

Mike looked concerned.  He always liked Dana, he felt a special bond with her that he couldn't quite understand.  He felt a fatherly sense to take care of her. to help her out when she needed it.  Of course, he never admitted that to her or to anyone, he didn't want people to think he was soft.  He had to be a leader, after all.

"What's going on?  Are you okay?  Is it Ian, the baby, your parents?"

"Mike, it's none of them.  This concerns you, and me.  Please, may I come in?"

"Sure!  Where are my manners?  Come take a load off!"  He motioned her to his living room, and she sat down on the leather sofa in his southwestern decorated room.

"Mike, this is going to be very difficult for me to say to you, so please listen to me and don't say anything until I am done.  Can you promise me this?"

"Sure, I can.  This must be pretty serious, cowgirl!"  Mike called her cowgirl ever since she was a little girl and wore one of his cowboy hats that was floating around the pad.

"Yes it is.  Anyhow.  You know how I have been searching for my birthmother?  I found her about a month ago, we met through the adoption agency that I was adopted from.  Her name is Carie Applegate, and she was 19 when I was born.  She told me the whole story, and revealed who my father is.  It's you, Mike.  I couldn't believe it, this whole thing is so confusing, so complex.  Mike, I don't want to ruin the relationship we've had for so many years.  You've actually been there for me all my life but we never knew that we were father and daughter.  Please don't be angry with me, we've always been so close.  Don't be angry with Carie either, as hard as that may be for you.  She's a good woman, Mike.  We are getting closer all the time.  She will never take the place of my mom, Carla though.  Carie and I will always be like best pals, and I want you and I to continue to have a friend type relationship.  I also want you to take a DNA test to officially prove that you are my father."

Dana finished what she had said, expecting to hear a loud bellow from Mike, and maybe even witnessing a fist through something, hopefully not towards her.  However, she heard nothing.  Nada.  Zilch.  Just a blank stare directed at nobody.

"Mike?  Please say something.  Please tell me how you feel, I don't care if you are so angry you want to punch something, but please don't hurt me and the baby."

Mike still couldn't utter a word.  He was too shocked to feel anything.  He thought back to Carie, and their relationship.  He remembered all of a sudden that conversation in which Carie broke the news that she was pregnant.  He drove her away, he never gave their relationship the chance to bloom from lust into love.  He was too focused on his music then, he thought a wife and baby would ruin his chances of continuing to make it big.  What a fool I was, he thought.  I could've had Dana as my own, I could've had Carie as my wife.  She was so beautiful, so lovely, and I never told her or indicated that I was falling for her head over heels.  Music got in the way, and my stupid pride and stubbornness.  I know though that Davy and Carla wouldn't have had the chance to love Dana as their own either.  Oh to redo this again!  But I can't, Carie probably wouldn't give a creep like me the time of day.  He figured he'd better tell Dana what he was thinking, she was growing more and more anxious by him keeping silent.  He didn't want anything to happen to her or the baby.

He told Dana what was going on, and he agreed to a DNA test.  Dana figured this would take ages to coax him, and everyone possible would have to be involved.  She was so relieved to hear that this wasn't to be the case, and even more relieved that he still wants to be a part of her life.  He also confided in her that he would like to see Carie to tell her how sorry he was for what happened.

"Mike you should do this.  Carie would love to see you, I'm sure of it.  Call her, it would make her day."

"Are you certain?  The way I treated her was really ugly, she probably hates me."

"Just give it a try, Mike.  I seemed to have inherited your stubbornness, so do it!"

Mike smiled, and gave her a salute.  "Yes, ma'am!"

He picked up the phone and dialed the number that Dana gave him.  He was so nervous, what if she hung up on him once she found out who it was?  He was ordered by Dana to do it, and he wanted to let her know he was sorry and wanted to get to know her all over again.

"Hello?" Carie answered.

"Hello, Carie?"

"Yes?  Who is this?"

"Um, this is Mike Nesmith.  Please don't hang up, I want to tell you something."

Carie was shocked to hear his voice on the other end, she knew Dana had gone to tell him, so she was wondering what was going to come out of his mouth next...

"Okay...  Go for it."

"Well, um, this is so hard for me to do, admit my feelings and all, but I want to say how deeply sorry I am for treating you the way I did all those years ago when I found out you were pregnant.  I never gave us a chance to turn our lust driven relationship into something wonderful, and I never gave us a chance to raise Dana together.  I was such a fool, Carie.  I want you to know that I was falling in love with you, but I let my focus shift to my music career instead.  I thought that a wife and baby would ruin my chances of making it big.  How totally inane is that thinking?  If you can't forgive me, I understand.  I just wanted to let you know I am truly and deeply sorry."

Mike was awaiting the reply, wondering if it was going to be a rejection, considering the way he acted towards her nearly 26 years ago.

"I forgive you, Mike.  I did years ago, because it was just tearing me apart.  Forgiving you made me go on with my life.  I am just so glad that we are speaking, I have wanted to meet with you for many years now, just to find out why you did what you did.  Thank you for letting me know, and for letting your feelings show."

"I do feel better.  I keep so many things inside me, it's just not good to do that.  It's my foolish pride!  Oh well, at least we have made up now!  I'd like to see you Carie, I'd like to be able to catch up on old times and build up a friendship, if you'd like to?"

"Yes, Mike that would be wonderful.  Let's meet at Malibu Park, say tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow afternoon would be great, I have nothing planned then."

"I am off work in the early afternoon, so how about 3:00?"

"Wonderful!  I am looking forward to seeing you, Carie."

"Me too, Mike.  Good bye."

Mike hung up the phone, and felt a joy inside that he hadn't felt for a long time.  His marriage to Cissy had started to crumble even before he started on tour, and they were not very close.  He may have a chance to rebuild a friendship that he lost due to total stupidness, and who knows, maybe it would turn out to be even more?  He didn't want to think about that now, he just wanted to take things one step at a time.

Chapter Seven

The next day, Mike met Carie at Malibu Park at 3:00.  He was waiting by one of the park benches, when a beautiful middle aged raven haired woman sat down next to him.

"Mike?" said the woman.

He turned to face her.  She had hardly changed.  Only the minor things like a small amount of gray hair, and a couple crow's feet around her eyes that were starting to make its mark.  She was a vision of beauty, why did he ever turn her away?!

"Carie.  How are you?"  Mike gave her a hug, he couldn't help being impulsive, seeing her made his heart skip a beat.

Carie was enjoying his hug, it was the same hug he used to give her; warm, strong, and comforting.  "I'm doing much better now."

They broke away from the hug, and took good looks at each other.

"Mike you are still as handsome as ever."

"You are still as beautiful as ever.  I was such a dern fool to turn you away.  I don't know if I will ever forgive myself for this.  But we can start over."

"That's right.  From the beginning.  If it turns into love, then we will follow the path.  If it doesn't, at least we can be friends." Carie gazed into his big brown eyes.

"I am willing to follow whatever path is meant for us to walk on, Carie."

They talked at the park for a couple hours, and then walked along the shores of Malibu for a couple more hours, enjoying each others company and talking about their lives.  Mike couldn't believe that Carie was never with another man after him, she was so broken up about it that she quit being with anyone.  That made him feel really bad, but made him more determined than ever to prove to her that he could be there for her the second time around, even if it's as friends.

By the time they walked back to the park, it was 7:00.  Mike had to go, he had a meeting with the other Monkees about their new CD.  They didn't want to leave each other; it was so much fun hanging out and catching up.  They did make a date for a couple days from then, at the beach, since they both enjoyed taking that walk and talking.

---

The relationship between Dana and Carie was getting stronger as well.  They would pal around quite a bit, shopping, walking along the beach, having lunch together on Dana's days off.  Get togethers with Peter, Vicki Sue, Ian, Mike, Davy and Carla were starting to take place, there have been two already.  They always had a lot of fun, and each time there is a get together it will be at a different house, for variety, and so that everyone has a chance to play host and hostess.

Carla was beginning to show jealousy.  She knew in her heart that Dana would always love Carla as her mother, but she was wondering if Dana would start hanging around with Carie more than her.She knew that this was selfish, and that the two should be allowed to spend time together, since they were apart for 25 years.  She couldn't help how she felt though.  But she made a note to talk to Dana about it very soon, so they could communicate their feelings to each other.

The one night about a month later, she did just that.  While Mike and Carie were out on a date, Carla went over to Dana and Ian's to help decorate the nursery.

They were decorating the walls when Carla spoke up.

"Dana, I want you to know that I have been feeling a bit of jealousy lately over your blossoming relationship with Carie.  I know it's silly, because you and I will always be mother and daughter and you would never leave me.  It's just that I have felt this way, and I wanted to talk to you about it."

Dana sighed, she wondered if this was going to happen.  "Oh mom.  Carie will NEVER take your place.  Her and I are more like best friends.  You are my mom, you raised me.  Carie knows this too, and she has no intention of zeroing in on our relationship.  She is just glad to be in my life and be my friend.  Mom, I love you so much."

Dana gave Carla a hug and Carla felt a whole lot better upon hearing it.  "I knew it, I guess I just had to hear it from you."

"Boy, Mike and Carie are sure hitting it off, aren't they?" Carla asked, as she pulled out the rocking chair for Dana to sit while she did the wallpaper border for her.  Dana was 7 months pregnant and she was getting limited on doing certain things.

"Yes they sure are." Dana replied with a cheshire grin on her face.  "They have been practically inseparable for a month now."

"I know.  I wonder if this will turn into a lifelong commitment?"

"Maybe, you never know!" Dana answered.

Chapter Eight

Two months have gone by, and Dana is more than ready to have the baby.  She is tired, cranky, and is sick of feeling like she is carrying around a watermelon.

Ian is trying his best to accomodate her, but she just keeps snapping at him.  He knows it's just temporary, so he is grinning and bearing it.  He is looking forward to the day she has the baby too, so she won't be so crabby anymore.

As for the relationship with Mike and Carie, they have been dating seriously for the past three months, and are crazy for each other.  Mike can't believe he let her go all those years ago; she's such a wonderful lady, someone who truly cares for and loves him despite his faults.  His relationship with Cissy was so different. He started thinking about their whole marriage: the best times were when he was happy and carefree. At those times she was around being a loving wife, and supporting him in every way.  The minute he had a crisis or was experiencing frustration or anger, she would take off to another part of their huge home and stay there until he was happy go lucky again.  She wasn't there for him when he needed her love and support the most.

Mike has been pondering the possibility of asking her to marry him.  He doesn't want to lose her again, he wants to be with her for the rest of his life.  He realizes it's only been three months since their eyes met again, but they've spent that whole time catching up and finding the love that was already there, buried deep down in the caverns of Mike's mind.  He wants to give her a life that she is due, a life of happiness and companionship.  He bought an engagement ring, a beautiful 1 karat diamond set on a 24 k gold band.  He is going to take her to dinner this evening at The Cafe Del Sol, a very fancy and intimate restaurant, and then for a moonlit walk on Malibu beach, their favorite place to be.  That is where he wants to ask her and give her the ring.

---

Mike picked Carie up at 7:00 sharp and when she stepped up into his Explorer SUV, he couldn't take his eyes off her.  She had her raven hair pulled back into a pony tail, it was all curled, and there were two thick strands of curls on each side of her fair colored face.  She also had on a gorgeous silky Hunter Green colored dress with spaghetti straps that went down to just above the knees.  Her shoes were black and had a 1 1/2 inch heel, since she abhored high heels.

"Hi honey." Carie chirped as she got in and kissed Mike on the lips.

"Wow, you look gorgeous!  Hot mama!" Mike whistled.

Carie laughed then turned a slight shade of red.  "Why thank you!  You look pretty hot yourself!"

Mike was wearing a tailor made black suit, more of a contemporary style.  It was a departure from his normal western wear, and Carie really liked the change for now.

"You like?  I don't usually wear this style, but I wanted to look different just for you, my love."

"I like it, I really do.  You know though that I love you the way you are.  I love all that western stuff you wear, and the way you have most of your home decorated Texas style.  Don't ever change, Mike Nesmith."

"I won't.  I know you love me the way I am and I am glad."

They ate dinner, it was very romantic.  They sat in a secluded booth with mood lighting and violin music serenading them.  They didn't talk much, just sat close to each other eating their meals and sneaking kisses inbetween.

After dinner, they parked the car in the parking lot and walked down to the beach.  The moon was full and it was shining down on the couple while they were walking and holding hands.  Mike then stopped Carie after they had walked about 1/4 mile and faced her.

"What is it, Mike?" Carie asked, curious as to why he stopped so abruptly.

"Carie, there is something I want to ask you.  How far do you think our relationship can go?"

"How do you mean?"

"I mean it in the way of commitment to each other."

"Oh, I think this can lead into a lifelong partnership.  How do you feel about that, Mike?"

"Yes, I think it can too.  I love you Carie Applegate, no woman has ever cared and shown me so much unconditional love as you have.  I want to spend my life with you.  Please say you'll marry me."

He pulled out the red velvet box, opened it up to reveal the precious ring, and he held it towards her, hoping that she would accept and allow him to place it on her delicate finger.

Chapter Nine

Carie gasped.  She couldn't believe this was happening.  The man she has always had a place for in her heart was actually wanting to marry her.  This would never have happened if Dana hadn't searched for her, she silently thanked her and gave thanks to God for making this all possible.

"Oh Mike, yes!  Yes, I will marry you."

She held out her ring finger and let Mike place the ring on it.  She gave him the biggest hug and most passionate kiss that she could muster.  They then started to walk along the beach, holding hands when Carie spoke up.

"Mike, let's do something spontaneous.  Let's get married right away!  What do you say?"

Mike looked over at his fiancee and replied, "What?  You mean at a JP or somethin'?"

"Yeah.  I mean, why go through all the fuss of a traditional wedding and spending all that money and time when we know what we want and that's each other."

"Yeah, I am all for it.  How about in the morning then?"

"You got it, Mike! I just want to be Mrs. Michael Nesmith as soon as possible and start a life with you, that's not desperate, is it?"

"No, in fact, the sooner the better."

He went to drive her home that night, and as he walked her to the door, Carie asked him to come in and stay, since they were going to go to the JP in the morning anyhow.  He wouldn't have to drive the distance from Santa Barbara to pick her up.

"I could stay.  I'll sleep on the couch, and we'll be ready to go by 8:00.

"Okay, but you could have my bed, I'll take the couch. I insist."

She got an extra blanket and pillow, and headed out to the living room.  Mike didn't feel right sleeping in her room while she was on the couch, he would rather take it.  She wouldn't take no for an answer so he shrugged and said okay.

---

Sometime in the middle of the night, Mike felt the bed move.  He woke up and noticed Carie climbing in.

"What's up?"

"I can't sleep on the couch after all.  Do you mind if I sleep here?"

"No, I will gladly move to the couch."  He went to get up, but Carie stopped him.

"Please stay.  It is so comforting to have you here."

"Carie... I shouldn't."

"Please Mike?  We'll be married in a few hours anyhow and sharing a bed from then on.

"True."

Before they fell asleep, they said a prayer of thanks to God for bringing them together, and for all the blessings that have been bestowed on them these past few months.

Eight O' clock came around and they jumped out of bed, got showered, and dressed.  This morning was the big day, but they didn't want anyone to come to the actual ceremony, they wanted to keep it private.  They would tell everyone later and throw a party to celebrate.

They arrived at the JP's office in Malibu at around 9:00, and waited to see if he could squeeze them in to do a ceremony at such small notice.

The JP was able to squeeze it in before anyone else was to show up for the first appointments, so he quickly did the ceremony, which was very heartfelt and emotional.

By 9:30, they were now Mr. and Mrs. Michael Nesmith, and they drove to Carie's place instead of his.  They were still deciding where to live, in Santa Barbara at his home, or in Malibu.

When they got back to her place, he opened the car door for her, and when she got out, he lifted her up and carried her into the house.  She giggled like a young girl.

"Oh Mike, you're so old fashioned!"

He carried her into the bedroom and they shut the door.  About half hour later, the phone rang.

"Mike, should I get that?" Carie asked.

Mike groaned.  Why did the phone have to ring now?  "No, let the machine take it."

"Hey Carie! It's Carla.  Davy and I are at the hospital with Peter and Vicki Sue.  Dana went into labor an hour ago and she's in labor and delivery with Ian.  Come over as soon as you can.  Oh and where's Mike?  We haven't been able to get a hold of him, so tell him to come along when you see him.  Bye!"

Carla exclaimed, "She's having the baby, Mike!  We should get there as soon as possible."

"We will, honey. Shh, I would rather be with you right now."  He kissed her and she melted in his arms.

She realized that they would still get there in time to see the baby.  Now was the time to be with Mike, enjoying their time together.

Chapter Ten

Mike and Carie walked hand in hand into the hospital waiting room a couple hours after Carla left the message, smiling like a couple cheshire cats.

Carla and Davy gave them a look, and Davy asked, "Okay you two, spill it!  We figured you were both together when we got no answer on Mike's machine or his cell phone.  Plus you are two hours late..."

Mike and Carie glanced at each other, and Carie said, "Should I tell them or you, or both of us?"

"We'll both tell them.  1, 2, 3..."

"We got married this morning at the JP!"

Everyone else stopped talking and looked over in shock at Mike and Carie.

"You what?" Davy exclaimed happily.  He went over and gave them both hugs and gave Carie a kiss on the cheek.

"You got married!  That's wonderful!"  Carla and Vicki Sue came over and gave her and Mike big hugs.

"Hey, way to go, guys!" Peter cheered, and came over to hug the happy couple.

"We have to have a party for you!" Carla stated.

"Yes, after Dana gets home from the hospital and can come over to the house, we will have the party.  Probably in a couple days or so!" Davy said.

"Thanks you guys, that is so sweet of you!  So how's Dana, by the way?  Any news yet?"

"No, not yet.  It will probably be awhile, since she's been in labor about 4 hours now." Carla said, looking at her watch.

"I remember being in labor with Dana for about 6 hours, so maybe she will luck out and have the baby in that amount of time." Carie said.

They sat in the waiting room, and all talked about Mike and Carie's wedding and their plans of where they are going to live and the future.  About three hours later, Ian emerged from the delivery room, clearly exhausted from helping his wife go through the pains of labor and childbirth.

Everyone got up and walked over to him, wanting to know the news.

"It's a girl!" Ian smiled.

"Oh that's wonderful!!  When will be able to see mother and daughter?"

"Probably in about a couple hours or so.  Dana fell asleep, and they are cleaning up the baby now."

---

Dana came home the next day, and had to stay home for about a week so that she could heal some.  She wanted to have the party for Mike and Carie at her house so Carla and Vicki Sue did most of the setting up for her, since Dana was busy with the baby and sleeping when she was.  The two women didn't mind, they knew how the first few weeks or so can be very tiring when the baby is up at all different hours wanting fed, changed, or held.

The party was a couple days later and everyone was there, including Micky, who brought along his 15 year old son Michael with him.  Everyone was congratulating Mike and Carie and Dana and Ian, since two milestone events happened the same day.

Dana and Ian hadn't picked out a name for their daughter, but they finally came up with one by the end of the party.  Ian clinked his glass for everyone to listen up to their announcement.

"My I have your attention please everyone?!  Dana and I have figured out what to name our daughter and we would like to share this with you and the reason why we picked the name we did.  Dana?"

"We named our daughter Darla Camille Tork.  There is a special reason we have named her this.  This year, as you all know, I found my biological mother, and found out my biological father is a man that I have known all my life.  Carie and Mike, you both are a big part of my life, you will always be my best friends, besides Ian of course.  Then there are my parents that adopted and cared for me, I love you always mom and dad.  You taught me right from wrong, and how to be strong and caring for others.  Then there is my in-law's and Ian's parents, who are always there for us as well.  We love you too, mom and dad, thanks for being there for us.  What we have done is combined the names of these wonderful people: Darla is for DAvy and caRLA, Camille is for CArie and MIke, we added the ille because it blended better with Darla than Cami did.  We tried to blend Peter and Vicki Sue, but we couldn't come up with anything suitable, so we figured Darla has the last name, so that is still a tribute.  Our daughter is going to be well loved by three sets of grandparents, that is a truly unique and blessed thing."

There wasn't a dry eye in the house.  All the new grandparents went over, hugged the new parents and took turns holding Darla.  She was beautiful, she had a full head of blonde hair, fair skin, and from what they could see, blue eyes.  That could very well change, since many babies' eyes change colors before they are a year old.

Mike and Carie finally decided where they were going to live, in Malibu at her house.  Mike really liked living there, he enjoyed walking along Malibu beach with her, and he loved her home, it's smaller and a lot cozier than his huge home which seemed so empty and cold to him.  He is selling it and they are going to invest in an RV so that when the Monkees start a tour for this upcoming CD they will travel in that instead of with the band.  They want to see the country their way, and be able to have the luxury of being by themselves while they can.

Chapter Eleven

Epilogue

A year has passed and life has been good overall for everyone.  Mike and Carie have been traveling in their RV for the past 5 months while the others are traveling by air or bus.  They are enjoying being able to see the country by the road, and spending a lot of quality time together.

Micky met a lovely lady named Melina while at a concert stop in Santa Fe.  She was working at the hotel desk where they checked in, and he fell for her instantly.  She could care less though, she didn't even recognize any of them.  He found this a challenge but he didn't get to do anything about it since they were only in town two days, and they wouldn't be back at all for the rest of the tour.

Carla and Vicki Sue went on tour this time, and they had a blast.  They didn't get to go the last time, because they both had kids in school.  They got to see the country, go shopping, stay up late, and they even saw a couple concerts from the audience.  They weren't sure how the fans would take that, but they were received well, and enjoyed dancing to the music with everyone.

Ian and Dana were happy in their role as parents.  Dana was able to drop Darla off at the daycare where she worked in the mornings, and picked her up at 2:00.  She worked usually 4 days a week, she wanted plenty of quality time with Darla.  Ian was home most evenings with her too, except when he had to teach a night class, which was a couple nights a week.  Darla was a happy baby, she smiled and giggled a lot, and she seemed to have her daddy's musical talents, and her mother's sense of stubbornness.  She had big blue eyes, fair skin and a light brown hair.  She also had dimples when she smiled, Dana was thrilled she inherited that!  She always said to Darla that boys will go crazy for her because of those!

Dana was so thankful that she went ahead and found her biological parents.  She knew that she was one of the lucky ones, things didn't always go so well for adoptees, birth parents, and the families.  She was so thankful that she had two sets of parents who could give her unconditional love.
