"Did you get the ice cream?" Micky asked as he and Peter walked in the door of the beach house.

"Yeah, I got two each of chocolate, vanilla, and rocky road. Think that will be enough?"

Peter sat the two sacks of groceries he had been carrying on the table and looked at Micky.

"Sure. There aren't that many people coming tonight. Mike would kill us if we had too many people. You know how he hates to make a fuss over his birthday." Micky started taking things out of the bag he had placed on the counter. He and Peter quietly put their
groceries and supplies away and then began decorating. Peter blew up some balloons and placed them randomly around the room and Micky strung crepe paper on the stairway.

After a few minutes, they had it decorated to their liking and smiled at each other.

"Looks festive," Micky commented.

"Yeah, they'll love it."

There was a knock at the door and Peter went to answer it.

"Valerie," he said when he opened the door to reveal a girl holding a cake box.

"Hi, Peter. Here is the cake and Brenda is on her way with the drinks." Valerie walked to the kitchen to put the cake down as Peter followed. He opened the box and looked at the cake that had 'Happy Birthday Davy and Mike' printed in icing across the top.

There was another knock and Micky went to answer this time.

"Hi, Brenda," he said, taking some of the bottles of soda from her arms.

"Hi, Micky. How's the decorating?"

"Done." They both went to the kitchen.

After looking around, Valerie and Brenda both said how nice it looked.

"When are Vanessa and Ellen supposed to have Davy and Mike back here?" Brenda asked, giving Micky a hug.

"About seven," he answered. "And the guests should be arriving about six-thirty."

"Well, we had better get everything set up," Valerie said with a clap of her hands.

When it was almost seven, the table was set up with the cake, ice cream and soda. There were a few gifts on the table, too, and the guests were there. Micky was watching at the door and when he saw them coming called to everyone.

"Here they come. Hide!" He turned off the lights and waited.

When the door opened, he flipped the switch and everyone yelled, "Surprise!

Mike was the first one in the door and jumped and grabbed his chest.

"What the..?"

Ellen laughed and gave him a hug. "Happy birthday."

Vanessa gave Davy a kiss on the cheek. "Happy birthday to you, too."

They all enjoyed music and dancing, even Mike danced with Ellen. They had cake and ice cream and Mike and Davy opened their gifts. When the party was over and everyone was gone, the guys started cleaning up.

"So, did you enjoy the party?" Micky asked Mike.

Mike picked up a plate and cup to take to the sink and looked at Micky.

"As much as I hate celebrating my birthday, yes, I enjoyed it. It's nice to have friends like you three. I don't know what I'd do without you," he said as he went to the kitchen.

Micky laughed. "You'd live a very boring life."
