Note: My opening was not part of my original script. This is where I added in The Monkees.
Chapter 1
(The Monkees are singing at a Christmas Party. They just got near the end of the song when suddenly, the people's attention were drawn away from them. The Monkees quit playing their music and were a little miffed...)
Mike: Well howdoya like that? (Mike came down off the stage and took his guitar off his back)
Micky (Still sitting at the drums goofing off with it): At least they stayed for more than half the song, Mike.
Davy: Yeah; the last time we played for a party, they all got up and left 'fore we were finished. (The three Monkees looked at the fourth one as he walked away from them not talking) Uh, Peter..?
Mike: Hey Peter? Where ya goin'? (Peter still didn't hear them and he kept on walking)
Micky (Watching Peter walk out a doorway): That's it! He's gone!
Davy: Well aren't we goin' after him?
Mike: Nah! He probably found some food laying around!
Davy: Yeah, but Mike, ev'ry time we leave him alone, he gets us all into trouble.
Micky: You mean like the time he said he was going for a walk and ended up with temporary amnesia because he was kidnapped by a crazy phony doctor?
Davy: No, I mean more like when he sold his guitar to some crook on the street for a treasure map.
Micky: Oh, you mean where we had to go to that island to look for the treasure and got hunted by an ol' man with a body guard only to find out that there was no treasure at all?
Davy: Yeah, that's the one!
Mike (Wrapping up his cord from his guitar): Hadn't thought about that, I guess.
Davy: C'mon, Mike! We can't just leave here without him!
Mike: Oh all right! But the first sign of trouble, we're outta here! (The three remaining Monkees put their instruments down and walked in the direction that everyone else had gone. They didn't see anyone in that room so they kept walking until they were outside. Suddenly, they saw what everyone saw...a bright and shinning star from high in the sky)
Micky: What do you suppose that means?
Mike: I dunno! C'mon, let's go see if we can find Peter! (The Monkees walked through the crowd and managed to find Peter at the very front of it) Hey Pete! What's goin' on?
Peter: I don't know. The star was gazing through the window in there and that's what brought us all out here. I think it wants us to follow it.
Davy: Uh-uh! No way! Ev'ry time we follow you, we end up in trouble of some kind.
Micky: Yeah, you're famous for getting into trouble and Mike is famous for getting us out of it.
Davy: So what are you and I famous for?
Micky: For being cute and funny.
Mike: Cool it, will ya! (To Peter) Sorry, Peter, but you're coming home with us! There is no way on this earth that we are going to go following that! (Mike pointed to the sky and then grabbed a hold of Peter) Mick, get the car will ya?
Micky: What, you actually trust me to drive the Monkeemobile?
Mike (Handing the keys to him): 'Long as you don't put a scratch on her I don't care!
Davy: Hurry it up, will ya Micky? It's gettin' kind of cold out here. (Micky took off and the other three were standing there a little cold) Hey, whose gonna take the instruments down?
Mike: We'll get them later. 'Long as the owner of the mansion is a friend of ours, we don't have to worry about them.
(Micky brought the car around and they got in. Mike made Micky get into the passenger's seat so he could drive the car himself. He took them home, but all the way home to the Monkees Pad, the star shown right on them. Peter wouldn't take his eyes off the star the whole way home because he knew they were supposed to follow it somewhere)
Chapter 2
(Three of the four Monkees were inside their beach house finishing off the decorating when they noticed that Peter had disappeared again...)
Davy: Hey, ah, Mike..?
Mike (Putting up some Christmas lights): What, Dave?
Davy: Peter's missing again.
Mike (Coming down from his ladder upset): Now whadya let him leave for??
Davy: Hey, it's not my day to watch him! It's Micky's!
Micky: Nut-uh! It's Mike's! I watched him yesterday!
Mike: Oh sure! Put the blame on me, why dontcha! Micky, will you check to see if he went upstairs to your room? (Micky went upstairs and poked his head into the bedroom. When he didn't see Peter, he came to the top of the stairs and slid down the railing as he always did landing right in front of Mike)
Micky: Nope, he's not up there.
Davy: I'll check the garage.
Mike: You do that! (Mike went back up the ladder)
Micky: Aren't you helping us?
Mike: I am...I'm putting up the decorations that Peter started and didn't finish.
Micky: Ha, ha, ha Mike! Very funny! (Mike came back down the ladder)
Mike: Oh all right! Dave, you check the garage, Micky, check the other bedroom and I'll check the refrigerator.
Davy: Now wait just a minute, Michael Nesmith! We aren't going to do all the work looking for Peter!
Mike: I was only joking, Davy! (Mike rolled his eyes at the look on the other two Monkees faces)
Micky: I say we forget looking in the beach house because I don't think he's here.
Davy: Then where do you suggest we look, curly?
Micky: Watch it or I'll...
Mike (In a mother-type voice): Now, now boys! No fighting!
Micky: I suggest we follow that star!
Davy: You must be joking! There is no way I am going out there looking for Peter through a star.
Micky: You have any other ideas, midget?
Davy: You're gonna get it for that one, Dolenz! (Davy went over to the freezer--which he could barely reach into--pulled out some ice cubes and walked back over to Micky)
Micky: Just what do you think you're gonna do with those?
Davy: This! (Davy dumped them down Micky's shirt and then he took off running as Micky jumped from the coldness. After Micky emptied the ice cubes, he ran after Davy)
Mike (Yelling): WILL YOU KNOCK IT OFF?? (The other two Monkees simmered down. They didn't like it when Mike yelled like that) Get over here, will ya? We have to go lookin' for Peter whether we want to or not. And I like Micky's idea of following that star to find him.
Davy: And I think you're both being ridiculous! There is no possible way that star is going to lead us anywhere but to trouble!
Mike: All right, if you don't wanna go with Micky and myself then you can stay home and wait for Babbit since he's due here in twenty minutes and we don't have the money.
Davy: Heh, on second thought a nice ride in the country side doesn't sound all that bad! (The three Monkees went out to the Monkeemobile and took off into the city) Hey Mike? I have a question? How are we gonna follow a star?
Micky: Get an agent! (The three of them chuckled at that one)
Mike: I don't know. Think about it. If you were Peter, where would you go?
Micky: To the bakery. He gets free donuts there because the owner is his friend.
Davy: Peter has friends? (Mike pulled into the bakery that Micky was talking about and the three Monkees got out of the car) I don't think he's here, Mike.
Mike: Why do you think that?
Davy: Because if he were here, he'd be hanging out right there! (Davy pointed to a girl over in the corner)
Micky: No, that's you, Davy! Peter isn't interested in girls. He's afraid of them. (They went inside and were greeted by the owner)
Owner: What can I do for you fellas?
Mike: Has Peter been here tonight?
Owner: Nope. Haven't seen him since this morning. Why, he missing?
Micky: Yeah for, like, the third time in the last couple of weeks.
Owner: Well if he shows up, I'll tell him you're lookin' for him. Here, have a couple donuts and coffee to go.
Mike: Davy's not allowed coffee.
Davy: And why not?
Mike: It'll stunt your growth! (Micky and Mike laughed and high-fived each other. Davy was not impressed. The owner handed them the donuts and drinks) Thank you.
Owner: Welcome. Hope you find him. It would be a shame if something happened to him.
Mike: Oh I'm sure he's fine. He just seems to find things to get into and we always get involved with it to get him out of it.
Owner: Have a good evening.
Mike: You too! C'mon, guys! Let's get going! (The three Monkees hopped back into the Monkeemobile and kept on driving)
Chapter 3
(After the Monkees drove around for quite a long time--Davy had fallen asleep--Mike finally saw where the star was pointing to...)
Mike: Huh..?
Micky: What is it, Mike?
Mike: It's pointing to that spot right there!
Micky: What spot?
Mike: That farm over there.
Micky: Why would it be pointing there?
Mike: I dunno, but there's only one way to find out. (Mike pulled into the long driveway and drove up quite a ways before he finally stopped the car. Mike was even more puzzled than before) Somethin' strange is goin' on here.
Micky (Rubbing his eyes in disbelief): Am I dreaming? This isn't a farm! It's a little town! Do you think this is where Peter is?
Mike: I don't see how unless he hopped a bus.
Davy (Now waking up and yawning): What's goin' on? Can't a guy get any sleep around here?
Mike: I'm seeing it but I don't believe it!
Davy: Hey, where are we?
Micky: We don't know. Hey Mike? Do you remember this being here before?
Mike: No. I'm going to get to the bottom of this. I think someone's playing tricks on us.
Davy: You think this is where Peter is?
Mike: What are you, Micky's echo or somethin'? He just asked me that question a second ago.
Davy: Sorry, man. I was sleeping and dreaming about...
Micky: Let me guess; a beautiful girl with dark hair and brown eyes.
Davy: Yeah, how'd you know?
Micky: You always dream about girls and it's always the same one.
Mike: Will you two cool it for once? (The three of them got out of the car. Micky and Davy followed Mike and just as they got to the beginning of the town, they were greeted by a familiar face) Pe.. Peter..?! How'd you get here so fast?
Peter: Heh, wouldn't you like to know?
Mike: What's with this place? Where did it come from?
Peter: I don't know. But I know that something exciting is about to happen.
Mike: How do you know that?
Peter (Smiling with his dimple): An angel told me so.
Davy: An angel..? What are you; crackers?
Micky: He's definitely crackers...crazy if he thinks he's seen an angel.
Mike: That's what being in the hot sun all day will do to ya.
Micky: I'm tired and hungry. Wonder if this place has any hamburgers?
Peter: No, no hamburgers. I looked. But they do have a nice little Inn over there. C'mon!
Mike: We don't have only a little bit of money on us, Pete. We can't afford to stay at no hotel.
Peter: Awe, c'mon Michael! These people are very friendly and I'm sure they would let us stay there.
Micky: No way!
Davy: I'm agreeing with Micky for once.
Peter: C'mon! Please? Please?
Mike: Oh...(There was hesitation) all right Pete! (The three Monkees followed Peter to the Inn. They went inside where they met an older man) Hi! We'd like a room for the night.
Man: You're in luck. I have two rooms left.
Mike: How much?
Man: It's on me! Just go over there and up the stairs. You'll find it on the left. (They followed Peter up the stairs and went to a room)
Davy: I'm not liking this. This place is too...
Micky: Weird..? (Davy nodded 'yes')
Chapter 4
(After the Monkees got settled into the room, they decided to check the town out. In doing so, they met up with another man just outside the inn...)
Micky: Um, Mike? Do you notice anything funny about this little town?
Mike: You mean have I noticed that we're the only ones not wearing a sheet over our head or riding some type of animal? Not at all!
Davy: Just how much stranger is this place going to get.
Mike: I dunno, but I'm gonna get some answers from that man right there! (Mike pointed to the man and walked right up to him)
Man: Hi!
Mike: Hi! I'm Mike. This is Davy, Peter and Micky.
Man: I'm Jonathan.
Mike: Are you familiar with this place Jonathan?
Jonathan: A little bit, yes. I travel through here about once a year.
Mike: Good, then maybe you can tell us where we are?
Jonathan: You're in Bethlehem.
Peter: Bethlehem..? There's no possible way we could be...there.
Jonathan: Oh so you know of this town?
Peter: My mother used to speak of it when I was a child.
Jonathan: Well, not much here really. Just this Inn and a few other things. But you're welcome to stay. The folks here are quite friendly. I would stay and chat, but I must get inside and get a room for the night. The owner fills up quickly and I have no intentions of spending the night out here!
Mike: Well it was nice meeting you, Jonathan. After you check in, do you think you could come chat with us?
Jonathan: Oh no, I must be getting some rest. I have to be off early in the morning. Have a good evening though. Oh, and here's some advice; something special is going to happen tonight by the looks of that star. You might wish to keep your eyes and ears open so you don't miss it.
Mike: Then how come you're going to miss it?
Jonathan: I told ya; I'm tired and have an early day. If anything exciting happens, come find me.
Mike: Okay! (The man left and the four Monkees sat down in chairs outside the Inn)
Chapter 5
(Something wonderful was definitely about to happen. But the four Monkees were still very puzzled about the whole thing...)
Micky: Hey Mike? You think we should, ah, well maybe change our clothes a bit?
Peter: Why? I'm quite comfortable the way I am.
Micky: I wasn't talking to you, Peter. I was talking to the Texan and right now I'm a little miffed at you for taking off like this.
Davy: Yeah me too! I don't like being dragged out into the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night just so we could find you.
Micky: Davy, you're scaring me.
Davy: Why's that?
Micky: Because you're starting to agree with everything I say!
Davy: Don't get used to it!
Mike: To answer your question, I think we're fine the way we are. Maybe if we just sit here, we won't be noticed.
Peter: Hey guys! Hey guys! (Peter kind of hit Mike's arm to get his attention)
Mike: Peter, what is it?
Peter: Look! (The four Monkees attention was now drawn to a man and a woman. The woman was on the donkey and they could tell that she was due to have a baby at any time. The man was leading the woman into the town and they stopped right by The Monkees. But it was almost like The Monkees weren't there--In other words they weren't noticed by the man and woman--The Monkees listened in on the conversation)
Woman: Joseph? I'm not feeling too well. Do you think maybe we could stop here in this town to see if they have a place for us to stay?
Joseph: Sure, Mary. You stay right here. I'll go in and ask the Inn Keeper if he has any rooms. (The man named Joseph went inside the Inn)
Peter (Whispering to Mike): I know who that is! I know who that is!
Mike: Will you calm down? I'm tryin' to listen!
Peter: But Mike, I know who that is!
Mike: All right, if you know who it is, why don't you ask her how to get out of here?
Peter: No, Mike, you don't understand! I know why we're here! That woman's name is Mary and the man that went inside is Joseph.
Mike: Peter, I think you've been drinking too much caffeine. Time for you to cut down, buddy!
Peter: But Mike...
Mike: Cool it!
Chapter 6
(Peter was just a little disappointed that Mike didn't understand what he was trying to say. But then he remembered something that the angel told him just before the others got here...)
(Peter's conversation with the angel before the others arrived)
Angel: Hi Peter! Don't be frightened of me!
Peter: I'm not frightened. I'm petrified!
Angel: No need to be petrified. I have brought you here for a special reason.
Peter: What's that?
Angel: I knew that if you were to come here, your buddies would follow you. They have a hard time understanding what Christmas means sometimes. This is the only way I could show them. You see, you may not know why you're here right now, but when the time is right you'll know. Your buddies, on the other hand, will not quite get it until the special event happens.
Peter: Special event..?
Angel: Just remember that it's a 'special event' and a lesson to be learned from all four of you.
(Back to where the other Monkees were, the thoughts that the angel told Peter echoed in his ear...)
"Angel's Last words in Peter's ear: Just remember that it's a special even to be learned by all four of you."
Mike: Hey Pete? You okay?
Peter: Yeah; I'm fine. But you three need to pay special attention to what's going on here.
Davy: Our attention is set on getting out of here, Peter!
Micky: Yeah, and the sooner the better. I don't like this place.
Peter: You will when we leave!
Chapter 7
(The man named Joseph came back out of the Inn with a look of disappointment on his face...)
Joseph: I'm sorry, love. There are no more rooms left in the Inn.
Mary (Trying not to cry): What are we going to do, Joseph? The baby is coming and...(Mary grabbed her stomach) and there is no way I can go any further.
Micky (Getting up and going up to them): You can have my room for the night.
Peter: Micky no! (Peter jumped up and ran up to him)
Micky: Why not? I want outta here and I'm leaving right now!
Peter: Micky, you can't do that!
Davy: Why not, mate? This couple, here, obviously need a room for the night. What would it hurt if we gave it to them?
Peter (To Mary and Joseph): Um, I'm sorry about my friends here. But you can't have the baby here.
Joseph: What?
Peter: What I mean is, there's a nice warm stable over there. You'd be better off having Him...it there.
Micky: Peter, don't you think you're being rude? These two need a place to stay so why don't we give them our room and we'll just get the heck out of here?
Mike: We aint leavin' until we find out why we're here.
Peter: But that's just it, Michael! Unless you figure out why we're here, we won't be leaving!
Davy: What..? Did I just hear you tell us that we had to stay here? (To Micky) He's really gone batty now.
Micky: He was already batty before we got here, Davy! (Mary was in a lot of pain and they could see it)
Mike: Um, sir? Let's help your wife down and we'll get her inside so she will be comfortable.
Peter: You guys just don't get it do you?! (At that moment, The Monkees witnessed the ray of the star shine directly down upon the stable that Peter had talked about)
Davy: We're dreaming. We have to be dreaming. Micky pinch me will ya?
Micky: With pleasure. (Micky pinched Davy)
Davy: OW! Killed that theory!
Chapter 8
Mike: What in the world..?
Davy: It's that star again. But this time it's pointing to...(Micky looked at Peter in disbelief as he continued where Davy drifted off at)
Micky: To that stable Peter was talking about. Peter...
Joseph (Interrupting Micky's thought as he speaks to Mary): Mary, that's our sign. This young lad is right. It would be warmer there. C'mon!
Peter: Could I help you with the donkey?
Joseph: Oh no thank you. I can manage.
Peter: Here! (Peter handed Mary his jacket that was made out of wool)
Mary: What's this?
Peter: It's a gift from me for you and the baby. It will keep Him...it warm.
Mary (Smiling): Thank you! (Mary and Joseph kept on walking toward the stable and three of four Monkees stood with confusion on their faces. Peter just smiled with that dimple as he had just made someone's day by giving away the jacket his mother had given him for Christmas)
Davy: Mick, do you understand this at all?
Micky: Not a bit! But you might wanna ask Peter since he seems to know more about this than us. (They noticed that Peter was missing again)
Davy: Oh no, not again! Mike, Peter's gone again!
Mike: Yeah I noticed that.
Micky: Why the confused look on your face, babe?
Mike: It's just a thought is all.
Davy: Uh-oh! When you have a thought, it's usually something smart and way above our heads mate!
Mike: Never mind! C'mon, we've gotta find Peter again! (The three guys walked to the edge of the city where they had left the Monkeemobile only to find it not there)
Micky: That little rat! He took The Monkeemobile and headed for home without us.
Davy: Oh that's just great, that is! Now what are we gonna do?
Mike (Pulling out his keys): That's impossible!
Davy: What is?
Mike: He couldn't have taken the Monkeemobile anywhere. I have the keys.
Micky: Okay, the jokes over! You can let us go home now, Peter! (Nothing) Peter, c'mon, man!
Mike: Well, let's start walking.
Micky: No way! I'm not walkin' anywhere until I find Peter. (At that moment, the star's light got bright again and landed out in a field somewhere)
Mike: C'mon! (Mike began to walk away from the other two)
Davy: Hey Mike! Where ya goin'?
Mike: I'm following that star! If you two don't wanna come, then stay there and don't make trouble!
Micky: We'll meet you in front of the Inn Mike! (Mike put his one hand in the air to let him know he heard them and he kept on walking) So now what do we do?
Davy: I don't know, mate. Maybe we should have followed Mike.
Micky: Nah; let's just go back into town and see if we can find Peter anywhere.
Davy: Yeah and maybe we could find something to eat. I'm famished. (Those two went into the town looking for Peter and for food)
Chapter 9
(Mike followed the star across the field. He was tired of walking but kept on going and came across three shepherds walking toward him with their flock...)
Mike: Hey! (They stopped walking) Where you going?
Shepherd #1: We're following the star into Bethlehem.
Mike: Why? There's nothing there but a small Inn and maybe a few other places. Wouldn't you rather go to "Disney Land"? (They looked at him)
Shepherd #2: We're doing what we're told to by an angel of God.
Mike: What's so important that you're traveling all this way for?
Shepherd #3: We are going into the city of David to see the Savior that was born for all of us.
Shepherd #2: Yeah, so if you don't mind, we need to get moving!
Mike: Oh...yeah. (Mike let them leave and as they were leaving, that's when it hit Mike. He realized what they were all doing there. He remembered a verse in the Bible that his mother used to say to him every year at Christmas time)
Mike's Mother's Voice in his ear: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in a field keeping watch over their flock by night. When Lo and behold an angel of the Lord shown 'round about them and they were sore afraid. The angel said, 'Fear not for I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign unto you. You will find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger..."
(The words, "Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord," echoed in Mike's head. Mike finally realized that he had been a little too grumpy this Christmas Season because he had forgotten the true meaning. He had snapped at Peter a few times for little things, jumped down Micky's throat about not keeping things picked up on his half of the bedroom and told Davy he wished he would go back to England. Mike hung his head and found himself almost crying. His buddies knew Mike didn't mean to be that way so they never let it really bother them but now it bothered Mike)
Mike (Bowing his head): Um, God? If you're listening? Will You forgive me for the way I have acted this season? And will You show me how to be nicer to my buddies? Thank You! Amen. Oh, and, will You help us get out of this place? I wanna go back home to my house where I can go to bed and be nice and warm. So if you could help me...(It was, at this point, that Mike had an unexpected experience happen; the angel that had appeared before Peter had appeared before Mike) This can't be real! It just can't be! (Mike rubbed his eyes and noticed that it didn't go away)
Angel: Hello Michael!
Mike: Wa.. wher.. how...(Mike cleared his throat) Um, how did you know my name?
Angel: I'm an angel.
Mike: Heh, yeah right and I'm "Little Red Riding Hood!" (Mike looked the angel over) Okay, where's the string?
Angel (Laughing): There are no strings attached. I really am an angel from God. (Mike crossed his arms and looked at the angel with that famous, "I don't believe you" look) You learned an important lesson about Christmas, Michael. God is pleased with you for stopping to remember the words your mother taught you growing up. But there is more. Christmas is, also, about loving and forgiving. While you learned about how to ask forgiveness, you still have to learn about the 'love' that this season brings.
Mike: How do I do that?
Angel: Go back to the city and to the stable. Watch what happens when you get there.
Mike: But I...(The angel left and Mike just stood still for a minute. Once he got his thoughts together, he took off for Bethlehem again)
CHAPTER 10
Mike took off for Bethlehem again, but he was highly confused by what the angel told him and scratched his head in thought as he continued the journey
(Meanwhile, back in Bethlehem, Micky ended up losing Davy somewhere along the line. He was highly upset now and was definitly not in a very good mood at this point
Micky (To himself): If I get my hands on that little...well I'm just gonna...oh brother! (Micky put his hand to his face and shook his head) I'm talking to myself! (Micky kept looking in and out of buildings and still had no sign of Davy anywhere. Nor was there any sign of Peter or Mike. He was feeling really lonely right about now) Man, what I wouldn't give to...huh..? (Micky saw the three shepherds, that Mike had come across, walsing into town with their sheep following. Being the curious Monkee that he is, he decided to follow them to see where they were heading. No sooner did he do that did they come up to him.
Shepherd #1: Hey, have you seen one of our little lambs? He seemed to of wandered off on us just as we got into the city. We couldn't go after him because of the other 20 sheep we have here.
Micky: Um...(Micky shook his head) No, sorry. I haven't seen any lost sheep. But I'm looking for some of my friends. Maybe you've seen them.
Shepherd #2: The only person we came across on our long journey was a very strange looking man with dark hair. He was wearing some type of green wool hat. We'd never seen him before.
Micky: Did you say 'wool' hat? (The shepherd nodded 'yes') Thanks.
Shepherd #3 (Using his staff to guide the sheep): If you happen to run across our little lost sheep, would you bring him to us? We'll be just beyond that small hill there. (Micky looked in the direction they were talking about and saw the star shinning down upon what looked like a little stable)
Micky: Wait a minute! That's the stable we sent that man and woman to. Why are you going there?
Shepherd #3: Because tonight began something special for all the world. Our Saviour has come and He has come in the form of a little baby.
Micky: Saviour..? Baby..? (Micky was now more confused than he had been since they got to this little spot) Well, I'll be on the look-out for your little lost lamb. Have a good night. (The shepherds nodded as they led their sheep to the little stable)
Angel: Micky, there's something I want you to see.
Micky: If you think you're going to change my mind about God and religion and all that stuff, you've got another thing coming to you. All I want is to get out of this place.
Angel: Will you come take a look at least?
Micky (Not wanting to): Oh, all right! If it means you'll leave me alone, then go ahead.
Angel: Go up to the stable and look at the baby. You don't have to say anything or do anything, but while you're there, ask the couple about the child.
Micky: This is crazy! (Micky walked over there but in an upset way. He got to the stable where the shepherds were now on bended knee as were Mary and Joseph) Why are you all on bended knee?
Mary: We're thanking God for bringing His Son into the world so that we might be saved.
Micky: Oh...well, what's his name?
Joseph: His name is Jesus. (Micky almost fell backwards in total disbelief)
Micky: Jesus..? As in "Jesus Loves Me This I Know?" I used to sing that in Sunday School. It was one of my favorite...songs. (Micky got a closer look at the newborn baby. While looking, he felt something in his heart that he hadn't felt in years)
Angel: Y'see, Micky; this little baby grew up living a perfect life. He performed many miracles, loved children and everyone else on the earth and He always prayed to His Father every day. And then one day, He died on a cross for you. He didn't do anything to deserve the death, but the wonderful thing about it all is, He rose again three days later. He loved everyone that much and He always will. For you see, even though He is no longer here in a physical form, Jesus is always here in your heart. But you must accept Him into your heart.
Micky: Me..? He died for me..? (The Angel nodded and Micky admired the baby some more) How could someone this tiny love someone like me that much that He would give His life up? I mean, I remember my step-father talking about Jesus' love for us, but...but I never stopped to think about it. I thought that Jesus was a 'fake'; but He's not. He's really real, isn't He? (The Angel nodded. Micky got down on his knees and, like Mike, asked for forgiveness. But Micky learned about the 'love' of God at the same time and therefore he was thankful to God for coming into his life)
Chapter 12
(Davy had found himself in another part of the little town talking to a young woman. While he was sitting at the table, a little lost lamb wandered into the place...)
Davy: Awe, where'd you come from? (Davy picked the little lamb up and began to pet it) Did you lose your Mama? (The lamb just "baa'd" as Davy spoke to it) I know how you feel. I lost my Mama at a young age meself. She was a wonderful woman. She always made sure we four kids were dressed and ready to go just about anywhere.
Woman: Isn't he cute?
Familiar Male Voice: Who Davy or the lamb?
Davy (Turning around; sarcastically): Ha, Ha Michael!Where've ya been mate? I've been sittin' here for at least an hour hoping that you or the other two would return.
Mike: What do you mean, 'other two?' (Davy bit his lower lip) Don't tell me you let Micky get out of your site, too!
Davy: I turned my back for only a second and he was gone.
Mike: How in the world could you lose Micky in only one second?
Davy: I dunno! Ask him! You didn't answer my question. Where ya been?
Mike: Out looking for Peter; y'know, the blonde one in our group?
Davy: I always thought that was Mr. Schneider?
Mike: Get real, will ya? Now we have to go find those two. (Mike looked at what Davy had in his hand) What's that?
Davy: Oh this..? It's a ring. I found it on the road back there. Must belong to someone important. (Mike took the ring and looked at it closer)
Mike: Davy, this ring belongs to Peter!
Davy: Oh, so that's why it says "To P.T., Love Molly." Whose Molly?
Mike: The red-head he was dating for a while. Anyhow, this means that our good buddy has to be still here in this town.
Davy: Mike, you still didn't answer me question!
Mike: Okay, okay! While out looking for Peter I saw three shepherds heading this direction so I asked them where they were going.
Davy: Shepherds? That means this little one here belongs to them.
Mike: You're very clever! After they left, I was visited by an unexpected visitor. (Davy just looked at him) I can't tell you anymore because you're gonna think I'm totally nuts.
Davy: No more than the rest of us.
Mike: I was visited by an angel.
Micky's Voice: Get outta here! Me too!
Davy: There you are! Where did you take off to?
Micky: I stepped out to get some air. When I walked back in, you were gone. I panicked and began looking all over for you only to end up in a conversation with an angel.
Mike: What'd yours say?
Micky: My Angel reminded me that Jesus loved me enough to die on the cross for me. It got me to thinking about my life and the way I live it.
Davy: What's wrong with your life? I think you have a very groovy one. I mean, you're a drummer, a lead singer and you're even funny at times.
Micky: That's cool and all, but I needed more. I accepted Jesus into my heart and asked for His forgiveness.
Davy: Okay, you two have totally lost it! I think I'm gonna go for a walk to get some air.
Mike: You aint goin' anywhere! We're not losing each other again. And we haven't lost it Davy. We found the truth. Don't you see why we're here? (Davy shook his head 'no') That baby that the woman was carrying is the Son of God.
Davy: Nut-uh! (They looked at him) No way! (They kept looking at him) You're telling me the truth, aren't you? (They nodded) But how is that possible? This is 1967! Jesus was born 1,967 years ago; give or take a few months.
Mike: Why don't you go take a look at the baby yourself, Davy? He's over in the stable with the woman and man we talked to earlier.
Micky: Yeah and while you're at it, take that lamb back too because they're looking for him.
Peter's Voice: Ya mean we can't take him home and make him our pet? (The three Monkees turned around and saw Peter standing there)
Mike: Okay, shotgun! Where have you been for the last couple of hours?
Micky: Yeah, we've been hunting for you up and down this town!
Peter: I've been here the whole time. Y'see, I already know the meaning of Christmas and about Jesus' love for us. It was you three that had to learn it.
Davy: Learn? Learn what? I don't get it!
Micky: Take the lamb back and you'll see what he's talking about.
Davy: Okay, but you're all still quite batty! (Davy walked out of the little restaurant and walked across the city. The other three Monkees walked behind him but in a distance because they knew Davy had to learn for himself what was going on)
Chapter 13
(On Davy's little walk to where the stable was at, three kings stopped him...)
King #1: Hi! Are you going to see the King?
Davy: Uh, King? No, I'm going to go return this little lamb to its owner. He kind of got lost, ya see, so I figured if I returned him the owner would give me a little something in return. (Davy thought for a moment as he looked at the three kings and then questioned them) Wait a minute! Aren't you three kings? I mean you're wearing crowns and lots of jewels.
King #2: We indeed are kings. But there is one King who is greater than all three of us combined.
Davy: Uh, so why you going to see him if he's more powerful than you three? I'd try to take him off the throne.
King #3: Not this one, sir. He's just a wee baby but when He grows, they say He will be even bigger than even King Herod himself.
Davy: Herod...Herod...(Davy scratched his head trying to remember where he had heard the name before. Then it dawned on him as the other three Monkees approachd him; to Mike) This is just too much, this is!
Mike: What do you mean, Dave?
Davy: First, Peter comes up missing, then you go hunting for him and come back later telling me that you saw an angel. But before that, I lose Micky and when he returns he tells me the same thing. Then I come across these three kings here and they're telling me about a king greater than them. I am way too confused here.
Angel: Davy...(Davy had the same reaction Micky did but it took them a little longer to get him to come around. Once Davy came around, he saw the three kings before him again along with the angel, the lamb and his buddies)
Davy: This can't be happening. I must be dreaming.
Angel: This is not a dream, Davy. I am an angel from God. Why don't you take the little lamb and follow the kings. There, you will find your answers.
King #3: Climb aboard! I'll help you get there a little faster. (The king helped Davy and the little lamb up on the camel) He is a cute little thing isn't he?
Davy: Yeah. Poor thing wants his Mama, though. Hey, thanks for the lift.
King #3: No problem. (The three kings came to the stable where the shepherds, Mary & Joseph were still kneeling and praising God for Jesus' arrival) We're here! (The kings helped Davy down off the camel. They grabbed their gifts from their packs and walked up to Mary & Joseph)
King #2: Hi! We three kings have traveled quite far to come see this child that has been born so that He will one day save the people from their sins.
King #3: We bring you gifts for the baby.
King #1: May we present them to Him?
Mary: Yes of course! (The kings handed Mary the gifts) Thank you.
King #2: May He be blessed all the days of His life. (The three kings then kneeled down and bowed their heads. Davy was flabbergasted. He walked up to the manger and looked at the baby. Suddenly, he felt something inside of him that he hadn't had since his mother had passed away) Davy: Um, I bring before you a little lost lamb. (Davy set the lamb down and instead of the lamb going to its owner, the lamb laid down beside Mary. It was, then, that Davy realized he had been missing 'love' in his heart all those years) I understand, now. I understand. (The three Monkees behind him smiled as Davy knelt down and began to pray for that same forgiveness. And then he prayed that the love be restored to his heart. Suddenly, Davy felt a real peace come over him and he let out a small sigh of happiness. The other three Monkees, then, knelt down beside him and worshiped the Lamb of Glory--Jesus)
CHAPTER 14
(The Monkees, then, found themselves back at the party place. They had their instruments on them and everyone was starring at them. They shook their heads, realized that they were back at the party and began to play a few more songs. Once they were finally done playing and everyone but them had left, they sat down on the stage side-by-side and looked at each other)
Mike: Guys, I have something to say to you all. Earlier in the week, I wasn't very nice because I usually hate this time of year. It was never one I liked because my mom couldn't afford to buy me the Christmas presents that all my friends had every year. I resented it. So from then on I vowed to make everyone's Christmas as miserable as my own. Well after this little 'experience' I realized that I didn't really know the true meaning and that I had gone about it all wrong. Will you three forgive me for the words and things I said last week?
Micky: No problem, babe.
Davy: Yeah; 'sides we're used to ya!
Peter: Yeah, it's okay Michael. We all have our problems. It's just now we know where to go to with the problems. Instead of keeping them to ourselves, we need to go to Jesus with them.
Micky: Well, why didn't you just tell us all this before...(Micky stopped himself) Heh, never mind Peter. We all learned our lesson and I for one will look at Christmas and my own life a little different from here on.
Davy: Yeah it was an experience I'll never forget, that's for sure. How did we get there anyway?
Peter: Only God knows. (The four Monkees laughed. They stood up, grabbed a hold of each other and walked out of the party doing the Monkee walk. Just as they walked out of the party place, the star shown on them. They looked in the sky, saw the angel, smiled and then got in the car and went home thinking about the true meaning of Christmas."
