Sorry! Have a great time, and call me to let me know how everything goes, including how Amber does.
Davy and Lucie drove to West Virginia, it took about 5 hours to get to Wheeling, where the race was to be. Lucie was very curious why Davy didnt have Bel come along this time. It usually was the family event. They would go to a race, stay at a hotel (Lucie would sleep with Bel, she didnt want to rush anything between her and Davy) and have fun, just the three of them. However, she was happy too that they could go to a race by themselves. She knew Davy well enough to know that he did have something planned. Just what was the question.
When they got to Wheeling, they registered Amber in the race, and Davy and her placed in 4th overall. It was a disappointment, because Amber and Davy usually place in 1st or 2nd, but this really was the furthest from his mind this trip. He wanted everything to be right, for what he was about to do.
That evening, they stayed at the hotel. Davy got some sparkling grape juice, (as he decided at the first of the year to stop drinking, much to the delight of his family, who knew he drank too much) and some finger foods, and snuck them in, while he sent Lucie out to get some ice for them. He also quickly dressed in a suit and tie that he packed in his suitcase before they left, and dabbed on some of Lucies favorite cologne.
She entered the room, and her mouth dropped open at the site of him. He looked so handsome! Okay, mister man, whats up?
What? This? Oh its just my everyday duds! They both laughed.
Cmon Davy. What are you up to?
Davy got down on his knee, and took her fair colored hand. She was in a state of shock. Lucie Fairleigh Jones, will you marry me, again? He opened a velvet box to reveal a 1 ct. diamond engagement band.
Lucie just stood there, her mouth wide open, tears streaming down her face. Y Yes. Y Yes.
Davy stood up after slipping the ring on her finger, and they embraced. He kissed her passionately, and they celebrated with the sparkling juice and food, which was mainly fruits and cheese.
They planned a date, and they both figured that they could carry off a wedding in three months time. The way Brie and Deanna prepared for one, they knew it could happen just fine. They just have to find out if their Pastor would be ready in two months. They didnt want to wait a year, or even six months, but if they have to they will.
They were getting tired, it was 11 PM, and they knew they had to leave in the morning for PA. Lucie went to get changed into her pajamas. When she emerged from the bathroom, and went over to her bed, Davy patted his bed.
Davy, I cant Lucie answered.
Okay. Its fine. I just really miss being with you, but if we must wait three more months, we shall.
I miss being with you too. There were so many times that I wanted you to stay, or that I wanted to stay with you. I know though that we are doing the right thing.
Yeah, I know. Davy sighed. But he did know that it was for the best. He didnt want to push her into something anyhow, he didnt want the second time to be gone.
They both said good night and turned out the lights.
Chapter Twenty Four
The next afternoon, they came back and told everyone the news. They were all very excited that they were taking a second chance at life together.
They went into Sunbury on Monday morning and talked to the Pastor. He said he would definitely be able to marry them in late July. He was happy that they decided to try again, he had been talking to them for a year since they started dating, and he knew that they would make it the second time around, since they both have strong faith in God, and truly love and respect each other.
They got all the papers, and took the tests that were required of them over the next couple months. Brie and Deanna made the food, took Lucie out shopping for the dresses - hers, the bridesmaids (Deanna, and a couple of her girlfriends), the flower girl (Bel of course), and the matron of honor (which was Brie, since they were very close). Davy went out with Jon and Cal to get the tuxes, since Cal was best man, and Jon was an usher. He knew he should call who he really wanted to call, which was Micky, Mike, and Peter, but how would he get in touch with them so soon?
He mentioned this to Lucie, who was more than thrilled that he wanted them at the wedding.
I think it can be attempted Davy. Lets give the Internet a search.
Internet? I dont know the first thing about that! Davy exclaimed.
Dont worry, between Bel and myself, we can rustle up some info for you!
Bel and Lucie worked diligently for a few hours at the computer, and came up with a phone number for a R.M. Nesmith in Farmers Branch TX. Lucie knew that Mike was originally from there, from what he had said when they used to go on tours in the 90s. She brought this to Davy, who jumped when he saw that.
Thats him alright! I bet he moved back to be nearer to his hometown! Lets call him!
(ED. Note: This is now the end of May, so you know) Davy used his cell phone and dialed the number, wondering what he would hear on the other end. He knew how Mike could be so temperamental.
Hello? A Texan voice said on the other end.
Mike? Mike Nesmith? Davy replied.
Yes, this is he. Davy?!
Yeah! You still recognize my voice?
Of course I do! Its very individual, just like you recognized mine, shotgun. So how are ya?
Doing great! Ive found Jesus, Im remarrying Lucie in late July, and Brie and her husband are having their first baby in December!
Thats great! I too, have found the Lord, I also found Micky.
You did? When?
For both? I found the Lord Easter of 2000, and I found Micky last month, when he called me. How about you?
I found the Lord March 28, 2000, the night of my daughter Bries wedding. Lucie and I started dating again last year, and I proposed to her in April. I would like to know if you can be an usher at my wedding.
Thats really great, Dave. Yes, you bet! Listen, theres a Christian festival called Sonshine Fest, its July 18-22 and its in L.A. Would you and Lucie be interested in meeting Micky and myself there?
Yeah, that would be splendid! The wedding is July 29 here in Beavertown, so you guys can come out with me, as long as Micky wants to be in the wedding too. Just give me the info on how to get there, and itll be so great to see you guys again. Have you found Peter?
No, not yet, shotgun. He may be the hardest to get hold of, knowing how he can be a recluse.
Yeah, I know. I will pray that we find him. I would like for him to be my best man, since he was always my best friend. Give me yours and Mickys email and phone numbers, and we can keep in touch!
I will pray too that we find him. Hey Dave, Im so sorry for the way things turned out 4 years ago at Wembley. I was so pigheaded.
I forgive you, Mike. Can you ever forgive me? I was such a big ego then, ever since I found Christ, my life has changed, man. Petty things dont get to me anymore, and Im not so big on my looks like I used to be. But you know, I still look good! Ha!
Get out of here, shotgun! (laughs) I forgive ya, youll always be my buddy! Heres the addies, well be in touch! Looking forward to seeing you and Lucie in July! Bye.
Bye, Mike.
Davy told Lucie the great news, and they were going to go to L.A. with Bel, since Brie and Cal were going on vacation to the Florida Keys that week. His mind kept going to Peter, and he sent up a prayer that he was okay, and that salvation would find him.
Chapter Twenty Five Peters story
It was New Years Day 2000, and Peter was sitting in his San Francisco flat, practicing his harp. While he was playing, he started thinking of all the people hes known in his life. There were so many that he was close to now, and he was glad to have those friendships, but he missed the ones he has lost: Micky, Davy, and Mike, his first wife Brenda (whom he was married to from 1973-1976), his live in love Renee from the late 60s, and his last love, Genevieve, who broke up with him in 1990, when he said he was moving from New York to San Francisco.
Why did it have to happen the way it did at Wembley? Why did he have to lose his cool? Peter is not known to lose his temper, unless things get really bad. Things did that day, but he could have done things differently, maybe they wouldve still been together as a band.
Then, the loves of his life. He has a girlfriend now that he sees from time to time, but their relationship is strictly physical. He is beginning to wonder if its really worth it just for the quick thrill that it brings them. Lately when he is with her, he thinks of Renee, Brenda, or Genevieve. He loved them all, but for different qualities. Renee was a free spirit, Brenda was down to earth and responsible, and Genevieve was all those. But he knows that it is over with them, since Renee has since married and settled down with 3 kids and a grandchild from what he last heard. Brenda remarried in the late 70s and had another two children, and Genevieve is too busy with her career in New York to want to get back with him.
He has two children: Heather, from his days with Renee, was born in 1969, and is now living in L.A. with her boyfriend Zeke. She is an interior designer for the rich and famous living in the area. Joshua is his and Brendas son, he was born in 1974, and is living in San Francisco, where he plays in his own ska band. Peter goes to see him when possible, as he cheers him on. He isnt very close to Heather, she kind of ignores him. Renee put all kinds of ideas in her head when she was young about her dad, and they really are mostly lies. All but his abuse of alcohol and drugs. Peter has since kicked those habits when he was with Genevieve, but Heather doesnt believe him.
He wanted so badly to talk to Heather, to really set her straight, but he figured she has been brainwashed by Renee for so many years now, it would do no good.
Peter was getting bummed now, and usually the harp makes him feel much better, in good spirits to go and play gigs with his blues band, the Blue Suede Shoes (ED note, I couldnt say Shoe Suede Blues, hee, hee! I hope this isnt a lame name. If it is, help me out!). It wasnt working, and he had a gig in 4 hours to go to.
He figured he would go take a nap, and then wake up and do some meditation. Meditation usually helped him sort out his feelings.
When he awoke an hour later, he meditated in yoga position for an hour, but it just wasnt working. He was still bummed out, and he wanted to feel better. What could he do?
He located his Zen book, and read that for awhile, maybe he would find some sage advice. Something he had never seen in there popped out at him, and he shook his head and rubbed his eyes. It was still there.
Peter, its God. Come to me, I will give you rest.
Why would that be in a book of Zen philosophy? Peter questioned. Let me close the book and look again, must be my imagination.
Put that Zen book down, Peter, and talk to me. Come to me, and I will give you rest.
Peter threw the book down, and ran out the door. He was going to the Buddhist temple where he usually went to worship. He was hoping that someone would be there to talk to.
Chapter Twenty Six
When he got to the temple, he noticed the doors were locked.
Darn! he yelled Nobody here.
He went to walk back home, when a beautiful woman, appearing to be in her middle 50s, in a peasant skirt and blouse saw him mumbling to himself with a scowl on his face.
She approached him and asked, Excuse me, sir. Are you feeling okay?
Their eyes met, and Peter thought, wow, what a beautiful lady! Yes, I guess so. He answered. They shut the temple for the day, so now I have nowhere to go.
I know of a place that we could go, and there is much more fulfillment there than a Buddhist Temple.
Where is that? Peter was thinking back to her place, but he shook his head at the thought, as tempting as that sounded to him.
Come with me, you will see.
They walked a few blocks to a quaint church amongst tall city buildings. Here we are, she smiled.
Peter just shook his head. A church? What is so fulfilling about a church?
She took his hand. Come inside, give it a chance.
Peter was hesitant to do so. He has been a Buddhist for about 30 years at this point, and it seemed like the religion he wanted to go with. But then he thought to the message in his book of Zen from God, which appeared twice, and he reluctantly went in with the girl.
The chapel was beautiful, filled with stained glass art of Jesus, the manger scene, and the cross. The pastor was there, but he was talking to someone else who happened to be there at the altar.
The girl led him to a pew and they sat down. Why was she doing this for him? Who was she? He wasnt sure what to think at this point, but he was here, and he was going to make the best of the situation.
Im Mandy, and I come to the church here every evening to collect my thoughts and pray. Im sorry if I caught you off guard
Peter, Im Peter Tork.
Hi Peter! Nice to meet you! Anyway, I never meant to catch you off guard like that, but I noticed that you seemed frustrated and lost, and I thought I would take the chance and lead you here to find some peace of mind.
He looked into her brown eyes, and she seemed genuine when she said that, so he replied, Its okay, Mandy. Actually I am feeling frustrated and lost.
Would you like to talk about it? Mandy asked, not trying to push him into anything he wasnt ready for.
Peter started telling her everything that was going on. He felt that he was able to trust her, that she was sent to him by someone. He started thinking, could God have sent her? He felt so much better after telling her everything. Mandy was such a good listener, never cut in while he was talking or offered him any kind of advice.
Do you feel better, Peter? Mandy asked in her melodic voice.
Yes, a lot! Thanks Mandy!
Youre welcome Peter! You come back here anytime, and maybe soon you will be ready for the ultimate relationship one with the Lord.
Yeah, maybe. Ill see you later!
Peter walked home, and he thought of how good it felt to talk to someone who seemed to understand him so well, and she didnt say a whole lot to indicate that. He just knew it somehow. He planned on going back the next day before his gig.
Chapter Twenty Seven
Peter kept going back daily at the same time, and he would talk to Mandy every time. She would listen to him contentedly, and let him vent all his emotions. After a week of doing this, Peter went and he wanted to know her story.
Hi Peter! How are you today? Mandy chirped.
Doing great, Mandy! Hey, instead of me talking today, I would love to hear your story. You seem to understand me so well. I would like to know your background, if you dont mind.
Nope, dont mind, Peter. You and I have a lot in common. I was a hippie at Haight Ashbury in the late 1960s. I sang and spoke of peace and love, and all the good stuff that should be in the world. But I was doing things I shouldnt have. I was practicing free love, do you know I had 300 partners in the three years that I was there? It was horrible, but I didnt see it that way then. I thought it was all part of the peace and love movement, you know, love the one youre with. Then I took all the drugs: LSD, heroin, PCP, weed, you name it, I did it. I was in a string of bad relationships, was married once to a guy that abused me to no end, and Children and Youth Services took my two kids from me. I havent seen them in 20 years. I have tried to contact them, but they dont want to see me. I spent the 80s in the gutters of San Fran, begging for money, so I can buy booze and drugs. Then some nice young man led me one day to this church instead of giving me money for the vices that held me captive. That day, I gave my life to Christ. He led me here to repent now for my sins. If I wouldnt have, Peter, I wouldve died not too much later, for I had many problems with my heart and liver from all the years of drinking and drug abuse. I went to detox, and got myself cleaned up. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 10 years.
Peter was amazed at how great Mandy looked for having such a hard life. What an amazing story! You owe all this to God?
Yes, Peter. God saved my life, and I owe my life to Him. Jesus died on the Cross at Calvary to save us from sin, and so that we can have Eternal Life in Heaven if we repent and live the life that He wants us to live. You can have this too.
I can? Really and truly? I have been coming here a week to talk to you, and then after hearing your remarkable story today, I want to be a Christian too, and follow what the Lord wants me to do. I have felt the best that I have in years since coming here.
Mandy prayed with Peter, and he gave his heart and his life to Jesus.
Peter hugged Mandy, for he was so excited about having this new lease on life. Thanks Mandy, so much!
Youre welcome, but dont thank me, thank God, he deserves all the thanks and praise.
Thank you Lord! Peter looked up toward the sky.
Mandy, I will still come here to see you, I want to be a part of this church.
Great! There are Sunday services at 10:00, and of course, its open every afternoon for prayer time. Ill see you then!
Bye, Mandy! Oh hey, Im playing tonight at Freddys at the Wharf. Would you like to stop by and see the band?
Peter Tork, are you asking me out on a date?
Um, well, yes I am. Peter blushed.
Well, consider it a date! Mandy chirped in her always positive and cheerful voice. God Bless you, Peter.
God Bless you, Mandy.
Chapter Twenty Eight
Mandy stopped by at the gig at around 8:00 at Freddys. She hadnt been there in years, when she was singing with a folk band back in 1968. Things sure have changed there. It was now a club for blues musicians, and it had that smoky type atmosphere. Lots of people smoking, and drinking. She was praying that as Peter started going along in his Christian walk, he would play in different environments, like non-alcoholic ones.
Peter spotted Mandy in the entrance, and he motioned her to the stage. She smiled from ear to ear as she greeted him with a hug. Peters bandmates were wondering where Loretta was (his girlfriend who he was merely physical with), as she would usually come to the gigs once to twice a week.
Guys, I want you to meet a new, and very good friend of mine, Mandy. Mandy, this is Jeff, Aaron, Ron, and Matt. Were the Blue Suede Shoes!
Hey Mandy! they replied in unison.
Hey guys! she extended her hand to shake all of their hands.
Pete, wheres Loretta? Jeff questioned.
Eh, I didnt feel like calling her. I decided to invite Mandy instead.
He then told the guys about how hes been going to the church for the last week to talk to her about things in his life, and how today, she told him her amazing story and he gave his heart and life to God. They just shook their heads, they really werent the type to believe in anything.
What happened to the Buddhist thing, Pete? Aaron asked sarcastically, You just gonna give that up for God?
Hey, I know that God spoke to me to go to the church and to give my life to Him. If you guys dont like it, thats too bad. Buddhism is not for me, being a Christian is. Now hush up and leave me alone. Perhaps you should go with Mandy and I Sunday and check it out for yourselves before you open your big mouths.
They all hushed up. Okay, Pete. Piped Ron. Well go with you and check it out.
Alright. Meet me at my place at 9:30 and well walk over from there. Service is at 10. I expect you to carry out your end of the bargain too, guys!
Mandy was so proud that Peter would stand up to his buddies like that. That takes a lot of guts to do that , especially when you are in the environment that they were in. She knew he already had faith.
She watched the show, and she enjoyed it very much. Peter was such a talented musician, she thought. She really wasnt one for blues, but she enjoyed the music and he even introduced her to the crowd that evening. She was falling for him, and falling hard.
After the gig, Peter loaded up his guitar and keyboard, and walked Mandy to her place, which was about 10 blocks away. They talked about how he handled the situation with the guys, and how he was so brave to do that.
It was nothing, Mandy. I want those guys to know that this is serious stuff, not something to laugh about or scoff at. I pray that it works out that they too can find happiness through God.
Ill be praying too, Peter. Peter?
Yes?
I have something I really want to tell you.
What is it?
I like you a lot.
I like you too! You are such a great person!
She wasnt sure if he knew how she meant that. So she tried again.
I mean, I really like you.
Peter stopped and looked her in the eyes. You do? Woo hoo!
She took that as good news. You mean you like me too?
Yeah. You and I are like soul mates. I seemed to sense that the day we laid eyes on each other when you asked me if I was okay. Then when we started talking to each other, I felt like I could tell you everything.
I feel the same way, Peter.
This time, Peter was going to refrain from any sort of physical relationship, or moving in together. He was going to take this slowly. He would tell Loretta that they were through right away, he didnt feel anything for her anyway, and he knew that she didnt either.
They arrived at Mandys apartment, and he walked her up to the door. Good night, Mandy!
Good night, Peter. Can I see you tomorrow afternoon?
Yeah! Ill be at the church at 4:00, then after we pray, would you like to go out to dinner?
Id love it, Peter! Ill see you then! She brisked in the apartment and shut her door. She was singing one of his songs as she was entering her living room.
Peter skipped home the few blocks to his place. He was so glad that the Lord entered his life, and so glad that the Lord brought him Mandy.
Chapter Twenty Nine
Peter and Mandy had been dating for six months, and things between them were very serious. They remained true to the fact that they were not going to do anything or move in together, but they really wanted to be able to stay with each other for more than just a few hours at a time.
Peter and Mandy talked about marriage, but both were scared because of being burned in the past. But then after they talked about it extensively, they knew that was silly, and that God brought them together to share life with each other. One balmy night in June, Peter and Mandy were walking along the Wharf when Peter got down on his knee and held out a pretty velvet box.
Mandy, will you marry me?
Yes, you know I will! She hugged and passionately kissed him, as he put the ring on her finger.
It was a diamond, but a basic ¼ ct. She didnt want much of a ring, just a symbol to show that they were going to be married. Oh Peter, I love you so much!
I love you too, Mandy!
They walked along the Wharf all that night, and wondered about the date. They both decided on waiting six months, and getting married on the date that they first met, which was January 1.
They wanted to have Jeff as the best man, his son Joshua and his bandmates Aaron, Ron, and Matt be ushers. They also wanted to have a couple of her friends be the maid of honor and bridesmaids. Her friends one daughter would be the flower girl, and Jeffs grandson would be ring bearer.
Then he started thinking about Micky, Mike, and Davy. He hasnt gotten in touch with them to ask forgiveness about what happened back in 1997. Wow, if I could get in touch with them, they could be at the wedding, he thought.
Mandy knew about the guys, Peter told her so much about them and their adventures. She prayed that Peter could find them and make up with them again. That would also be wonderful if he could do this in time for the wedding. She also prayed that Heather would forgive Peter.
Chapter Thirty
Six months later, January 1, 2001. It was the day of the wedding, and Peter had never gotten hold of Mike, Micky, or Davy. They couldnt be found. He was upset about this, but he realized that this wasnt in Gods Plan right now to find them.
He had made up with Heather though. He contacted her one night in September, and she just happened not to hang up the phone this time. It gave him time to finally be able to explain everything, and she realized that he was telling her the truth, so she forgave him, and she asked for forgiveness for not believing him sooner, and not talking to him for so long.
He forgave her, and they started visiting with each other. Her and Zeke were still living together, and they had a little one year old daughter named Zoë. Peter was so excited to see them all again, and was so elated to have a granddaughter. Heather and Zeke liked Mandy, and so did Zoë.
They were at the wedding, along with the church congregation that they have called their family. His buddies from the band were there too, as they were in the wedding. They have been coming to the church as well, as they lived up to their end of the bargain, and they found out the Truth and that it will set you free. They gave their lives to God, and over time, their attitudes were changing from sarcastic to hopeful. It showed in the Blue Suede Shoes music as well.
The wedding was beautiful, Mandy wore a beautiful, but simplistic white dress with a floral head band. Peter was wearing a white tux, and doves were released outside the church after the ceremony, as a sign of peace. Both wore grins the size of Texas on them, they were so happy to be married and to be sharing their lives together.
They decided not to have a party afterwards, for they wanted to leave right away for their vacation to Arizona. They wanted to go on a road trip, camp out at the Grand Canyon, and see the beautiful sites.
Everyone said goodbye as they drove off in their MGBGT..
Chapter Thirty-one
They arrived at the Grand Canyon late that evening, and set up their dome tent, and sleeping bag, which was a roomy double sleeping bag. Of course, they didnt do any sleeping that night!
They were up to see the beautiful sunrise along the rim of the canyon. They were in awe of the beauty of it; and thanked God for creating such wonderful treasures on earth. They then fell asleep and didnt wake up until 3:00 in the afternoon.
They spent 3 days at the canyon, and had a wonderful time. They toured the rim of the canyon the one day, and on another day they rode the donkeys down to the bottom, and went river rafting on the Colorado River (A/N: I believe that is the river that is there).
Once they got back to San Francisco, Peter had to play a gig the next night down at the Wharf. The band started playing at better blues clubs there late last year, and Mandy was so glad that they didnt have to play at the seedy dives any longer. They had made a name for themselves in the San Francisco music scene, and now are thinking of making a CD of their songs from over the past couple of years.
Mandy was always at the shows, and was always eager to talk to the fans. She didnt even mind when the girls would want pictures taken with him, and they would ask for hugs or a kiss on the cheek. When some girls ask for a kiss on the lips, however, thats when she draws the line! Those girls would get mad at her and refuse to speak to her, but that was a small number. She was well received, and she really liked that.
Before they left for the gig, Peter asked Mandy what he should do about trying to get in touch with Micky, Mike, and Davy again. It had been a few months since he last tried to contact them, and he wondered if he would have any luck now.
Mandy thought about this, and replied, How about trying the Internet, honey? I have heard that you can find people you havent seen for ions there.
Peter wont have anything to do with the Internet, or computers in general. No way, Mandy! I will not even THINK of touching one of those contraptions! There has to be another way of finding them!
Mandy shook her head in disbelief at her husbands close-mindedness. Peter, you are game to try all kinds of things in this world, now whats wrong with giving a computer a go?
I cant stand technology! I like old fashioned telephone communication, or preferably, face to face.
I understand that, Peter, I like that too. However, if you want to find your friends, you need to try something that may just bring you to them.
Bah-humbug! Peter snorted.
That was the end of the conversation, and they went out the door to the Wharf.
Chapter Thirty-two
It is now June of 2001, and Peter and Mandy have been married six months. They had Zoë with them for the weekend, so Heather and Zeke could go to Oregon together for a weekend camping trip by themselves.
Zoë was 18 months old, and got into everything! Mandy thought it was so cute, as she can remember her kids being that way at that age. Peter did too, but he had to remember to keep Zoë out of his music room, so that she didnt get into her gampas things.
They loved having her, and one weekend a month they would take her. This weekend, gamma and gampa took her to the zoo, where she absolutely loved looking at all the animals, birds, and sea life.
After the zoo, they took her to the recording studio so she could see her gampa sing and record songs with all the members of the band. She clapped her hands, danced, and giggled while in the mixing booth. Mandy couldnt stop laughing, but she did manage to stop long enough to get a few great snapshots!
That Sunday afternoon, Heather and Zeke came back refreshed and ready to head down to L.A. After visiting with Peter and Mandy for about three hours, Heather forgot to mention something to her dad.
Dad, I forgot to tell you! There is going to be a Christian festival in L.A. next month. Its called Sonshine or something like that. There will be all kinds of music, speakers, and its a 4-day festival where you can camp there. I figured you and Mandy would like something like that.
Mandy smiled from ear to ear. Really? Thats great! I was at a Sonshine Fest when I first became a Christian a number of years ago, and it was a blast! Pete, weve got to go!
Peter thought about it, and decided that he and Mandy should go. You know, maybe I could see if any of the guys are still living in L.A I think Micky was as of the 97 tour. I also would enjoy hearing the Christian music, and hearing the speakers. Well get our camping gear, and our hearts and minds ready for next month then!
Chapter Thirty-three
It was now July 18, 2001, and the day of the Sonshine Fest in Los Angeles. Mike arrived at LAX (the airport in L.A.), and was scheduled to reunite with Davy and Micky at 9:00 AM. The three of them never found Peter, so they figured he went into hibernation somewhere. They all prayed that someday they would be able to find him, even if they had to hire a Private Eye.
Mike was at gate 33, waiting as patiently as possible. He was so anxious to see his brothers again.
Davys flight from Philadelphia arrived at 8:30, and he, Lucie, and Belinda walked briskly to gate 33, where Mike and Micky were to be at 9:00.
Micky entered LAX at 8:55, and ran as fast as he could to the gate. He was never known to be prompt for much!
Mike noticed Davy at 8:45, and called out, Davy! Shotgun!
Davy knew that voice a million miles away. He ran over to Mike and gave him a big bear hug. Mike!!! How are you doing, mate? Ive missed you!
Ive been doing great, shotgun! Ive missed you too!
They started talking, and Lucie and Bel had big grins on their faces, knowing Davy was so happy to see his long time friend.
Ahem! Didnt you forget someone, Davy? Lucie waved over at Davy.
Oh yeah! Im sorry, luv! You remember Lucie and Belinda!
Mike gave them hugs. Yes, I remember them! How have yall been?
Wonderful, Lucie beamed, gazing at Davy.
Im so happy for the both of you getting remarried! I bet you are happy about that too, eh, Belinda?
Yes, I am! Belinda joyously answered.
I see that Micky is running late! Mike rolled his eyes, looking at his watch.
Thats Micky for you! But we cant change the way he is, you know. Davy replied, shrugging his shoulders.
You know, you really have changed, Dave. Mike said. Im glad that you have!
You have too, mate. You dont seem to be so snappy and impatient as you were.
I try, shotgun. It can be difficult, but I try.
Just then, Micky showed up at 9:02 AM, out of breath, but grinning because he is finally reunited with 2 of the 3 buddies he left behind 4 years before.
Sorry guys! he panted, trying to catch his breath. I ran as fast as I could to get here on time. You know how I am with being punctual
Yeah, Mick, we know! Just come here so we can have a group hug!
GROUP HUG! they shouted as they gave themselves a big bear hug.
Micky, you remember Lucie and Belinda. Davy smiled.
Hi, of course I do! Congratulations on you and Davy getting married again! I bet that makes you happy Belinda!
Yes, it does. I am really happy that my mom and dad are back together! she smiled.
Boy, I sure wish Peter were here to join in this reunion. I miss him a lot. Davy sadly stated.
Yeah, me too. He was like the glue that kept us together sometimes. All that positive energy really can grow on you. Mike replied.
You never know, guys. We may just run into him around here. Miraculous things have happened before! Micky positively, but somewhat half-believing, stated.
Little did they know, that Micky was absolutely right!
Chapter Thirty-four
The three guys, Belinda and Lucie arrived with their bags and camping stuff at the field that Sonshine Fest was taking place.
Mikes church friends were there as well, but had all come at a different time, since Mike had the reunion scheduled at the airport. He saw his friends Joshua, Martha, and Maggie, and called them over to meet everyone.
Hey guys! Id like you to meet my friends that I havent seen for four years! This is Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, his soon to be wife for the second time Lucie, and their daughter Belinda.
Guys, these are my good friends from Farmers Branch, Joshua, Maggie, and Martha. We all go to the same church.
They all shook hands and exchanged hellos, and talked for awhile. After a few minutes, Maggie looked at her watch, and said that they had to go meet with Pastor Scott at their churchs tent, since they all went together.
Okay, see you guys later! Mike called out. Hey Martha, come here a sec!
Yeah?
Where are you guys camping? We can move our stuff near yours, if theres room.
Oh yeah, theres just enough room for everyone, as a matter of fact. Come on then with us, and you can set up your stuff.
Thanks, hon! Mike said. He really wasnt sure yet, but he thinks he has feelings for Martha. Lately, hes been going to her house and visiting her more often. Also, after she helps him on the farm, he takes her out to lunch. He takes Maggie out also, since she also helps, but he makes sure he sits by Martha and gets all nervous when they are together.
Everyone followed Martha, Maggie and Joshua to their campsites, and set up their homes for the next four days.
As they were doing that, Micky saw this beautiful blonde haired woman walk by. He was taken by the way she carried herself as she was walking, which was very confidently, and the way her long hair swayed in the breeze. He wondered if he could follow her and ask her name. Just as he was about to drop the tent he was attempting to put up, Davy snapped him out of his trance.
Earth to Micky! Come in Micky! Davy called, laughing. You noticed that blonde breezing by, didnt you?
Micky shook his head, snapping out of the trance, and replied, Yeah! I need to find her, Dave! What a beauty! Did you see how she was walking? So confident!
Go, Micky, find her. You have always had a thing for blondes, didnt think youd change in that department. He chuckled.
Thanks man! Put up my tent for me! He yelled out, as he went running in the direction of the mystery woman.
Lucie and Davy finished assembling Mickys dome tent after they finished theirs.
Mike was too busy flirting with Martha to notice. He had already assembled his tent, and now was helping her with hers. Maggie and Joshua noticed that Mike has been spending an awful lot of time with Martha lately, and it became clear to them that he had a crush on her the minute he started flirting with her while putting up the tent.
I think you know who has a crush on Ms. Martha! Joshua whispered to Maggie.
You noticed that too? Do you think that Mike will actually ask her on a date?
Hard telling! Well see what happens. Joshua answered.
Davy, Lucie and Belinda decided to walk around and check out the campsite and the park where the whole festival was taking place. Joshua and Maggie found this the perfect time to leave Mike and Martha alone so they can talk, so they asked if they could tag along and show them around, since theyve been there before.
Sure, mate! The more the merrier! Davy said.
Well see ya Mike and Martha, were going to check everything out.
Mike didnt even know they were going to leave. He was so engulfed in his conversation with Martha. Huh?! Did yall say something?
They all laughed. Never mind, Mike! Well see ya later, were walking around.
Oh okay, later!
Mike wanted so much to ask Martha on a date when they were back at home, but he just couldnt get the nerve to do it. He was afraid it would ruin their friendship. However, he wanted to find out if it would work out, because he felt that she was the kind of woman that would be such a wonderful wife and best friend. He still loved Lillibeth, but he had no idea where she was, and she had no intention for years to seek him out, or even let their kids talk to him. He couldnt find her with all the Internet or any other kind of searches. He even tried the advanced searches where you pay a good sum of money, and she was nowhere to be found. He figured that she hid herself good enough so she didnt have to be bothered with him. Martha is here now, and shes the best candidate for a relationship since Lillibeth. Shes down to earth, loves ranching, loves country and western music, and studying the Bible and praying with him, her sister, and Joshua. He had to try it. First, he had to pray to God about it, to make sure this was part of the Lords Plan for him.
Lord, I pray that I follow your Plan for my life. If that includes having Martha in my life, than I shall follow your wishes. If not, then Martha and I can remain friends. I pray in Your Name, Amen.
Now he would wait and see what the Lord revealed to him. Until then, he was going to enjoy himself, and be with all his friends.
Chapter Thirty Five
As Micky was just about caught up with the mystery woman, he caught out of the corner of his eye a familiar face. Could it be? He thought to himself. He slowly turned around to look, and before he could say anything, a voice called out:
Micky?!
Peter?! Micky excitedly shouted, and ran over to him. He gave him a big hug, he was so happy that the miracle had happened. Thank you Lord, for answering my prayer!
Huh?! Peter quizzed.
We all met at the airport, Pete! Then we all wished you were with us, and I said that miracles have been known to happen, and wow, it did! Micky was running on, he was just too excited to slow down.
Who was with you at the airport, Micky? Slow down, man, start from the beginning.
Mike, Davy, and I. We all found each other over the Internet a couple months ago, and we decided to meet here, since the three of us have all become Christians. We tried to search for you man, and we couldnt find you. Now I did, and wait until the guys see you! Were all back together again!
I am so happy to see you too, Micky! I never published my number, you know how private of a man I have always been. My wife wanted me to search the Internet for you guys, but I hate computers! I tried the phone books about six months ago, but had no luck. Mandy and I both decided we should come down here to check out the Christian music and speakers, and also see if we found any of you still living in L.A. I am so glad to have found you!
You got married?! Thats wonderful! I never thought you would actually do it though, I have to admit. Wheres the lucky lady?
Yeah, well Mandy is a wonderful woman, her and I are best friends and soul mates. She got me to go to Church and accept Christ into my heart as my Savior. I thank God for her in my life. Mandy?
Mandy walked over, she didnt want to disturb their reunion, that is why she had remained at their spot where their tent was ready to be assembled.
This is Mandy, my beautiful wife of seven months. Mandy, this is Micky Dolenz.
Youre the one who eats a lot and always has funny jokes, right?
Yep, thats me! I dont eat as much as I used to though, Pete. I cut down to 2 chili dogs and a large fry a day! Micky chuckled. Its nice to meet you, Mandy!
So where are you guys located? Peter asked Micky.
Were up the field a bit. Wait, follow me, and eventually Ill get you there.
Eventually? Peter and Mandy chimed.
Yeah. See, theres this beautiful woman that carried herself so well, and I need to find her and ask her name
Blonde with long, swaying hair? Peter finished.
Yeah! How did you know?
Come on, Mick! Youve always had a thing for long haired blondes!
Youre right! I guess we havent forgotten about the way we are, huh?
Nope, once like brothers, always like brothers. Do you forgive me for the way I acted 4 years ago?
Of course I do, Peter. Do you forgive me?
Yes, I just want us all to be friends again, and work out our differences civilly.
Me too, Pete. Oh man, lets go before I lose that girl forever!
They went and looked for the mystery woman, and chatted like they never had four years separation. Micky caught up to her, and asked her name. It was Justine, and when they met, their eyes locked. It was like love at first site! Peter and Mandy figured they should let the two get acquainted, but they couldnt leave because they needed to find the campsites where the others were. They figured that they could find them on their own after all, so they excused themselves and said they would see Micky later.
Chapter Thirty Six
Peter and Mandy walked hand in hand throughout the campground, searching for any sign of Mike, or Davy. As they were walking, Peter and Mandy were talking about what has happened so far.
Peter, I am so glad that you found Micky and you guys made up! He seems like a great guy. He is quiteflighty though! Always seems to be on the run, and has a million things on his mind.
Thats Micky. He is always thinking about something, and rushing around like he has only a second to spare. Hes one of the nicest guys you could have as a friend. Very funny, and smart too!
Just as Peter finished that sentence, they came face to face with Davy, Lucie, Belinda, Joshua, and Maggie.
Peter?! cried Davy and Lucie. Peter, you are here! Micky was right about that miracle! Praise God!
Peter laughed. Davy, Lucie! So good to see you guys again! This is one of the best days of my life! We just came up here from seeing Micky, he happened to see me out of the corner of his eye, and told me about how you guys searched the Internet, found each other, and met at the airport.
So howve ya been, Mate? Davy asked, hugging Peter tightly. Ive missed you, man!
Ive missed you too! Davy, can you forgive me for the way I acted towards you four years ago? I want us to be friends again.
I forgive you, Peter. Will you forgive me? Since I have become a Christian, I am a changed man. I was such a big ego back then, but I gave that life up to be more kind, caring, and humble.
I forgive you, Davy. I am so glad that we all have become Christians. It seems like our lives have paralleled in some ways.
Yes, it sure seems that it has. Come on, lets all go to where Mike and Martha are!
Martha? Peter inquired.
Yes, my sister, and a good friend of Mikes from Farmers Branch. Maggie spoke up.
Oh I see. Nice to meet you
Maggie. Martha and I are twins. This is Joshua, our friend also. We should probably all go back and then introduce each other so its not so confusing. Maggie laughed.
When they all got back to the tents, Mike and Martha were still there, talking like a couple of chatty Cathys Mike then looked up from the blanket they were on, and saw Peter standing there.
Big Peter! Shotgun, youre here! Mike gave him a big hug the size of Texas.
Mike, this is so wonderful! We are all together again! I didnt think this would happen a year ago, but it has. Wow, words are failing me, I am just so happy. A tear ran down Peters cheek.
Davy and Mike began to have a tear running down their cheeks too. But they quickly wiped them away, and started introducing everyone to each other. They all shook hands, and sat down on the blanket and started chatting.
Wheres Micky, by the way? Mike asked.
He found a girl, and they were getting to know each other. A blonde girl named Justine. Peter answered, a big dimpled grin on his face.
Hell be around later I hope, so we can all catch up! Mike said.
Chapter Thirty Seven
Micky and Justine talked for two hours where she was camping, which was quite a distance from where everyone else was. They had so much in common, both were architects, both were new Christians, both loved tinkering with electronics and gadgets, and both loved to make jokes and funny faces. Their differences were that while Micky was outgoing, Justine was shy, and that while Micky loved Classical and The Beatles, she liked alternative and Amy Grant. They liked the fact that they could have differences to go along with their similarities. They had a lot more to talk about that way and learn from each other. The other difference is that Micky is 56, and Justine is 33, but that wasnt any barrier for them, just more to learn about each other.
Micky finally looked at his watch. Oh no! I have to get back up to the campsite, we are all having a reunion and I really want to catch up with them and get to know everyone else.
Justine frowned. Okay, can I see you later? She was praying that he would ask her to come along. She would love to meet his friends. She didnt have the courage to ask him though.
Micky wanted her to come along, he really liked her. He could tell right away that this could be the start of something special. He never even felt that way when he first met Sasha or Tracey Ann. He was praying that she would say yes, what if she didnt? He swallowed hard and asked, Justine, would you like to accompany me to the campsite? I would love for you to meet my friends.
Justines face beamed. Yes, I would love to!
Micky was so excited that she said yes. Great! He exclaimed. Lets go!
Micky and Justine held hands as they climbed the short hill to the campsite where everyone was. Micky had the butterflies, and he was hoping that holding her hand already wasnt being too forward. He sure wasnt that old fashioned when it came to the others he dated or when he was with his ex wives. This must be the start of something special, he thought to himself.
When they arrived, they all clapped.
Its about time you made it back, Dolenz! Mike pretended to yell.
Yeah, Yeah, Nez. You always have to be the father of the family, dont you?
Darn straight! Im the one whos the most responsible!
The guys all laughed, remembering all the times when they lived at the Pad. They all sat around until 11 PM just chatting away. Then it was time to sleep, because the next day started all the activities and they started at 9:00 AM.
Everyone who camped there went to their tents: Maggie and Martha, Davy, Lucie, and Belinda, Peter and Mandy, Joshua, and Mike. Micky walked Justine down to her tent with a flashlight. They decided to take a more scenic route, where there were only a few tents, so they wouldnt disturb anyone while talking.
I had a great time, Micky. Your friends are all so cool!
Im glad you had a great time, Justine.
Micky?
Yes?
She was going to go for it. She was going to tell him that she liked him. It was time for her to step out of her shell, and let him know before she lost him. She had prayed earlier about this, and she thinks that this is the right thing to do.
I really like you.
Mickys heart skipped a beat as he heard those melodic words pierce through his ears. You do? I like you too. He felt like a school boy saying this, but he loved it!
As they reached Justines tent, they gave each other a hug, and he kissed her sweetly on the lips. Justine felt on top of the world, and her heart was all aflutter.
Good night, Micky. Ill see you in the morning.
Good night, Justine.
Micky skipped back to the campsite, and whispered for Mike.
What, Mick? Mike replied. He was awake also, thinking about Martha.
Can I come in? I would like to talk with you.
Just like old times! Yeah, come on in shotgun.
Justine told me she liked me as I walked her to her tent!
She did? Thats great! Shes a sweet girl, Micky.
I know! She makes me feel like a schoolboy, I never felt that way before with a woman. I kissed her gently goodnight, and it was like fireworks.
Sounds like this could be the start of a beautiful relationship, Micky. Take it easy, though. She seems like a fragile flower, handle her with care.
Definitely. I will treat her like a lady. I have learned that sex isnt everything. I used to get to know a lady fast and get them into bed within a week, sometimes sooner. Not now. I am looking for someone to spend the rest of my years with, someone who will love me for me, you know? Someone who will hang out with me too.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I am looking for that also.
With Martha? Micky whispered.
Yes. How did you know?
Man, its obvious how you flirt with her!
It is?
Mm-Hmm.
Mike didnt even realize he had been that obvious. I guess everyone else knows, then. I wonder if Martha does.
I dont know. Perhaps you should find out?
I really want to, Mick, but were best friends, and I dont want to ruin that. I have prayed about it though, and I will see what happens, if its in Gods Plan or not.
Micky said goodnight and went back to his tent. Mike prayed about it again, and fell asleep.
Chapter Thirty Eight
The next morning, everyone woke up, got dressed, and walked over to a large tent for a prayer breakfast. Micky went to pick up Justine and they would meet everyone over at the tent.
While everyone was eating breakfast, Mike decided that he would tell Martha about how he felt. He felt the tugging at his heart when he woke up, so he knows its time to give it a go.
Martha?
Yes, Mike?
Um, Martha, theres something I want to tell you Mike was stuttering, he was so nervous.
Martha had a feeling about what was to be said, but she let him finish. She noticed his flirting, and she has been flirting back. She doesnt want the friendship to end, however, if they started a relationship, so she too was praying about it.
Go on, Mike.
Um, for the past few months, I, um, I have had, um, feelins for you. There, he said it.
Mike, I have too.
Mike was flabbergasted, but overjoyed. You have??
Yes, but I didnt want to say anything because I didnt want to ruin our friendship if something happened.
Martha, I felt the same way! I prayed to God a couple times about this, and this morning, I got that tuggin in my heart, so I went for it.
Well, what do you wanna do, cowboy Nez? Martha asked. That was her nickname for him. Do you wanna go for it?
Yes, I do. Martha, youre the woman I have waited for all my life. I know that is cliché, but its true! Even Lillibeth wasnt like you. Youre the woman I want to be with the rest of my life, I know this in my heart. But we will take things slowly, Ms. Martha.
When the prayer started after everyone was done eating, Mike and Martha gave thanks to God for answering their prayers and bringing them together.
Micky and Justine prayed the same way. Then they all gave thanks for bringing The Monkees back together, they way they ought to be.
Chapter Thirty Nine - Epilogue
July 29, 2001 was the day of Davy and Lucies wedding. It was beautiful, Deanna and Brie did such a wonderful job with the catering, and Lucie looked spectacular in her wedding dress.
After the party, Davy and Lucie went to Florida for their honeymoon, they wanted to go to the Keys and just relax and enjoy each others company.
As for The Monkees, they decided to start playing again, and in 2002, they started a reunion tour, much to the delight of fans all over the world. Along with their hits, they recorded a couple new songs with a Christian theme to it, and performed them at every show. This was their way that they wanted to let the world know about the Love of Christ, through their music. They knew this was going to be a trial, since many are not going to want to hear it, but they are ready to take on the challenge. It has been a pretty good challenge so far, and they are thrilled about it.
Mike and Martha were very happy together as a couple, and got engaged in 2002. They knew that God wanted them to be together, and they were getting along wonderfully. Martha was going to sell her share of the ranch to Maggie, and Mike and her would continue to raise cattle on his farm in between his touring. They also have started searching the Internet and are going to hire a Private Eye to find his children. He misses them so much, and he wants to ask them for forgiveness and start a relationship with them again.
Micky and Justine were truly, madly, deeply in love. They wanted to be together all the time after just six months of dating and talking all night to each other on the phone or on the Internet when they werent together. They fit like hand in glove, and they knew that this marriage would last if they went for it. They got engaged and tied the knot on Valentines Day, 2002. By April 2002, Justine found out that she was pregnant with their first baby. Micky was so excited, and his daughters were very happy too, as they adore Justine. He is praying for a boy, by the way, but will be so grateful no matter what.
Peter and Mandy were still happily married. She accompanied him on the tour, and became the advisor for the band, since she was very good at handling situations. They also welcomed the arrival of their second grandchild in 2002, a boy named Ezekiel. Right after the baby was born, Heather and Zeke finally got married after living together for a few years. Peter and Mandy were elated at this! Joshua became leader of the Blue Suede Shoes while Peter was on tour, and he made a name for himself in the recording world with their very first CD nationwide.
The End
