The Romantic Troubles of Peter Tork
The Monkees - Good Clean Fanfic

Author: Hannah
Rating: G

It was an ordinary day at the Monkees pad.  Mike was sat at the kitchen table, flicking through the local want ads.  Micky was laying on the sofa, with one eye on the TV which was showing re-runs, and one eye on the magazine he was half-heartedly reading. Peter was sitting cross-legged on the floor by the bay window, picking out a tune on his banjo. Davy was in the bathroom, making himself beautiful for his date that evening.

"Where does he keep finding these chicks?" Micky asked. "He must have been through half the city's female population already".

"He now covers 3 States!" Peter replied with a sigh. "How do any of us stand a chance with girls when Valentino's around?" He put his banjo down onto the floor and rested his chin on his hands. "Say Mike?" Peter asked.

"What is it, Babe?" Mike answered, looking up from the newspaper.

"Who's this girl that Davy's seeing tonight?"

Mike closed the paper - there was nothing in there anyhow, at least not anything that they were qualified to do. "Now let me see...Sandra?"

"No, that was last night," Micky replied.

"Um...Mary?" Mike tried again.

"No, that's tomorrow night," Peter sighed.

"Joanna?" Mike said hopefully.

"No, that was Tuesday!" Davy shouted from the bathroom.

"We give up, Babe, who's the lucky girl tonight?" Micky called to Davy.

Davy emerged from the bathroom, hair wet from his shower and a towel around his waist. "The very lucky girl is Mandi" he answered with a grin, "The wonderful Mandi". He then returned to the bathroom to carry on preening himself.

Peter walked over to Mike and sat down next to him at the table.

"How is it that Davy gets all these girls and we never even get one between us?" Peter pouted and leaned his elbows on the table. "I mean, we're as charming and interesting as Davy is."

"Sure we are," Micky said. "It just proves once and for all that there's no accounting for taste!"

Davy shouted from the bathroom, "O! I heard that!"

"Heard what, Dave?" Micky called out innocently. They all laughed together, all but Peter. Peter was sincerely hurt and upset by the fact that whenever he met any girls, all they were interested in was the fact that he knew Davy Jones, that he was in The Monkees WITH Davy Jones and that he lived with Davy Jones. Peter was starting to feel very unloved and unwanted.

"Hey, Pete, are you alright?" Mike asked him. "You look sad".

Peter managed a sad smile. "Sure, Mike, I'm fine. It's just..." he trailed off mid sentence.

"Just what, Peter?" Mike looked concerned. Peter had seemed down for the last couple of weeks. "What is it?"

"Well..." Peter started uncertainly. "It's just that I've been thinking lately...ya know, about girls and stuff...and I'm starting to think that I'm never gonna meet someone, ya know? Like I'm gonna be miserable and alone forever."

Mike put his hand on Peter's arm. "Hey, good buddy, you're gonna find someone for sure. And until you do, you'll always have us and we love you".

"Aw, Mike, I know you guys are groovy and everything, but..."

"It's not the same, huh?"

Peter shrugged and rested his chin on his hands. "Ya know that Davy gets all these girls throwing themselves at him, going mad for him and he doesn't even try... Me - I've been trying my whole life and I never even got so much as...well, so much as nothing."

Mike smiled across the room at Micky, who had been listening to him and Peter talking. "Hey, who know, maybe this girl Davy's taking out tonight will come to the door and fall madly in love with you."

Micky got up from the couch and sat on the edge of the table. "Yeah, man, maybe this girl will be the girl you've been waiting for your whole life."

Peter shook his head. "No girl would look twice at me so long as Davy's around".

"Hey now," Mike said firmly. "You don't put yourself down, alright? I'm sick of hearing how Davy's so much better than you, okay? You have a lot to offer to the right girl, Man, you just have to find her, that's all".

"Yeah, babe, Mike's right" Micky added. "You just have to be confident".

"And believe in yourself," Mike continued. "That's all Davy has that you don't have - confidence. He knows that he's the best looking guy in the world.. he knows that every girl is just dying to go out with him.. he knows that he's Mr. Perfect.. See, all it is believing in yourself!"

"Yeah, but all those things are true about Davy, not about me though," Peter said sadly.

"No, Peter, those things aren't true about Davy," Mike said, "He just makes people believe that they are by being confident, ya dig?"

Peter shook his head, "Not really.."

"Not really?" Mike repeated.

"Okay, not at all," Peter sighed. "See, what girl is gonna wanna go out with me?"

Davy came out of the bathroom and walked over to Peter. "Hey, Pete,". He put his hand on Peter's shoulder. "How about you go out with Mandi tonight?" He had obviously been listening to what Peter had been saying.

"What?" Peter looked up at Davy. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm not really all that interested in Mandi anyway," Davy lied "So why don't you have her? Why don't you go out with her tonight?"

Peter's face didn't light up in the way Davy was expecting. Instead it clouded over. "Why what's the matter?" Davy asked.

"What's the matter? I don't want you donating your girlfriends to me, Davy! More than that, I don't NEED you donating your girlfriends to me."

"What's the problem Peter? You wanted someone to go out with and I'm giving you someone. I thought you'd be happy. Talk about ungrateful!"

"Ungrateful?? You thought I'd be happy?" Peter was now standing up, shouting. "You have no idea, Davy!" He sighed and lowered his voice. "You really have no idea, do you?" He sat back down. He hated to lose his temper with anyone, especially the guys. Micky, Davy and Mike all looked somewhat taken aback - Peter rarely let himself get angry like that.

"I'm sorry, Pete. I was only trying to help." Davy said gently.

Peter smiled at him. "I know, I know, Dave. It's just that I dont want to be given a girl, I want a girl who likes me for me, ya know? I want somebody who wants me".

"And you'll find her," Mike said.

Then there was a knock at the door. "Oh, that'll be Mandi," Davy said. "Do you want me to stay here with you tonight, Peter?"

Peter shook his head. "Thanks, babe, but I'll be fine."

"Ya sure?" Davy asked.

"Yeah. It means enough that you asked." Peter smiled at Davy. "Go out, have a good time."

Micky interrupted. "Well, unless he answers the door soon, he won't be going anywhere."

"Oh, geez, yeah!" Davy remembered and ran over to the door. The rest of the guys laughed - everything was back to normal. Davy answered the door and showed in not one, but two girls. The guys looked at each other in confusion, surely Davy wasn't taking out TWO girls?

"Fellas, this is Mandi," Davy said, motioning towards one of the girls - a pretty girl with glasses and long brown hair.

She smiled at them and said, "Well, it's nice to meet you finally. Davy's told me a lot about you all".  She then turned towards Davy and motioned towards the other girl, a shorter girl with dark blonde hair who was wearing dungarees. "I hope you don't mind, Davy, but this is my friend Hannah. She's visiting from England and I couldn't leave her sitting home alone, but I didn't want to cancel our date. You don't mind do you?"

"Oh no," Peter said. Mike, Micky, Davy, Mandi and Hannah all looked over at Peter. He was standing with a goofy look on his face, gazing at Hannah. "I don't mind at all".

Davy smiled at said to Hannah, "Hannah, this is Peter Tork".

Hannah walked over towards Peter and took his hand, "It's good to meet you Peter".

Peter smiled back with stars in his eyes. "Me too".

Davy took Mandi's arm and led her towards the door. "I think Hannah'll be alright here," he said and they went out their heads together, giggling between themselves.

Mike and Micky looked at each other and then looked over at Peter and Hannah, who were both sitting cross-legged on the floor, deep in conversation. They smiled at each other and knew that Peter was going to be just fine. They'd told Peter that the girl who came to the door would be the girl he'd been waiting for his whole life and would fall
madly in love with him - and they were right!!

THE END. - THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
