Chapter One
It has been just about three years since Mike, Micky, Davy, and Peter toured for their 1997 World Tour. They decided to go their separate ways after they toured the UK, citing creative differences. None of them havent spoken to the other since; they each are angry at the other about one thing or another. They were the best of friends until then, having started out in 1966, as a garage band, playing their hearts out at their rented beach house at 1334 Beechwood Drive. It drove Mr. Babbit nuts, but the neighbors loved them, and they soon found stardom when a producer heard them at their number one hangout, The Vincent Van Gogh Gogh.
They had years of success, and years of failure as well, but they always managed to stay together through the thick and thin. Whatever made them change their minds on that fateful day in April 1997 after they played Wembley, no one may ever know.
As for where they are today, Mike is living in his hometown of Farmers Branch, TX, just outside of Dallas. He is twice divorced, the father of 5, and the grandfather of 2. He wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, and settle down on a ranch, raising cattle, and playing songs on his guitar.
Micky is living in West Hollywood, CA, in a two bedroom apartment. He is living out his lifelong dream of being an architect, working for a multi million dollar firm in Los Angeles. He too, is twice divorced, with 4 children, all grown. No grandchildren yet, as none of his children are married yet.
Davy is living in Beavertown, PA, a quiet, and small community in Eastern Pennsylvania. He lives on a horse farm, raising horses and racing them as well. He always thought he was too tall to be a jockey, but he has found out that he can actually live out his dream. He is thrice divorced, and a father of 3. He has one grandchild, one that he spoils unmercifully.
Peter is living in San Francisco, playing in the small clubs that he always has enjoyed playing for. He enjoys playing the Blues, and is considering taking up the harp again, so he can go and try out for the San Francisco Symphony. He is once divorced, but has also had a couple live in relationships go sour. He has 2 children, and no grandchildren.
They all have fulfilled some sort of dream in the three years since they have parted ways; however, they all feel that something is missing in their lives. They dont seem to know just what that something is, either. This makes them all feel very incomplete, very depressed, not being able to figure out what can fill the void. Perhaps they will find their answers? We shall find out
Chapter two
Mike was sitting in his large Texas sized living room, on the rawhide couch, pondering what has gone on in his life over the years. There were some really great times; the time when the guys made it big back in 1967, the years before they were each married when they lived at that beach house, having their exciting adventures, and even the rough times when they barely survived, they were together as a team and pulled through.
He then went on to the sad times: His first marriage to Lillibeth was something special, why did he have to cheat on her with her best friend Yuki? He really regretted all that, but knew that a reconciliation was too late, considering they were divorced 15 years ago, and he has already been married and divorced again. He went and married Yuki 6 months after the final papers were signed, and they were only married for 13 months. What a mistake that was. Lillibeth never forgave him for that, he didnt blame her either. His 5 children have sided with her, he has absolutely no contact with them whatsoever.
Then there is the whole thing with the guys breaking up. He started to think aloud, hoping to make some sense of the whole thing.
Why did I go and get so angry at them that April day?, he pondered, shaking his head, and scratching his well kept beard, which was showing signs of age. We went through hell and back in the early days, and in the 1970s, when sales plummeted and no one wanted to hear The Monkees anymore. This really was minor, compared to all that.
He thought of trying to find the guys, and contacting Lillibeth somehow without her hanging up. This being January 1, 2000; a new year, a new millennium, things should be patched up, made right. Alas, how to start? What would Lillibeth and the guys say at the other end of the phone? Or at the other end of the computer lines? Mike was a very proud man, something he really wasnt all that proud of. Nonetheless, he was who he was, and he wasnt about to change all that. Or was he?
Chapter three
Something kept tugging at him to go and find them, make amends. He wasnt sure what this force was that kept tugging at his heart and mind. He kept trying to shrug it off , citing different reasons as to why he shouldnt. But each time that he shrugged it off, that tugging kept getting stronger and stronger.
What is going on here?! He shouted to himself. I need to find out what is causing me to think this way.
He proceeded to call his friend in Dallas, a prominent psychologist. He got an appointment the next day, January 2, and when he went in to see him, he told him his problem.
Ah, said Dr. Stanley Freberg, It is a case of the subconscious telling you to resolve some issues that have been haunting you for a long time. You need to seek out these people and make amends right away.
Hogwash! shouted Mike, knowing in his heart and mind that it is indeed what he has to do, but too stubborn to admit it. I really thought you could help me Stanley, but I guess not. Too much studyin that psychological mumbo jumbo.
Fine, Mike. Calmly stated Stanley, but added, I think you know that I am right but arent admitting it. Its that stubborn Texan pride of yours! It does nothing but get you in trouble.
Well, its the way I am, and Im not gonna go a changin for anyone, shotgun.
Mike left the building, huffing to his Dodge Ram. He knows full well that Stanley is right, but why does that darned voice and tugging have to keep haunting him? He sure doesnt want to admit defeat. Then everyone will know that Mike Nesmith has a weak side after all.
Chapter four
Mike was out in the barn, milking the cows, when all of a sudden he thought of that psychic in town, Madame Zocor. I bet she can tell me whats up!
When he got done with his morning chores and the milking done, he rode to town to pay a visit to Madame Zocor. He was hoping that she didnt come up with the same thing that Stanley did.
He entered the candle illuminated shop. There she was, dressed in a gypsy type outfit, wearing moons, stars, and a horrifying pentagram on her neck. Mike was getting pretty spooked at this time, he was ready to turn around and go out, but then
Dont leave. Come, sit down, and I will read your palm. Let me tell you your future.
Ummm, I guess so. Mike sat down reluctantly at the chair, as Madame took his palm.
Wow, what lifelines you have, ummm, wait, dont tell me your name, let me guess.
Mike was ready to laugh, as he figured she would get his name wrong!
Larry? Then she cleared her throat, making herself sound like she had gotten the right name, Yes, Larry is your name.
Mike had to laugh, so he let it out. Yeah, right lady, my name is Mike.
Oh yes! she sighed to herself, knowing she got yet another name wrong. I was just getting the vibes from the spirits that Mike is actually your name!
Mike thought, how lame can she be?! He was waiting for the ridiculous fortune he was about to receive
You will be reunited with an old flame, someone who meant something special to you. There will be much fighting, but then you and this someone will make up and get back together. Ah yes, and I see a reunion with some old friends from your past. Once again, much fighting, but a joyous reconciliation will soon follow.
Mike quickly removed his hand from Madame Zocor, not believing his ears. This is the second time that this has been revealed to him, actually three times if he included the voice and the tugging in his heart that he had received.
He stormed out of the shop, not knowing what to do. I dont believe in that psychic crap anyhow!
He went home that afternoon, and finished his chores around the ranch. All the while, he was pondering where to go next for answers. Then a voice came to him, saying, Read the Bible
Mike was very confused by this answer. He was never a religious man, never prayed, never picked up a Bible. He thought that answers were found by thinking about them, or seeking knowledge through just plain old common sense.
Bible?! Thats ridiculous. How can answers be in the Bible?
He shrugged off that voice for quite some time. By the spring time, he had found himself hearing that small voice more and more. Plus the tugging and the voice about making amends was getting more prominent as well. By Easter time, he was reaching the end of his rope mentally. He was losing it, and it was starting to show in his work at the ranch.
His cattle just werent as bulky as they were in the past for when it came time to sell them for meat. His heart wasnt into taking care of them like before. His mind was constantly thinking about how to solve this problem he was having. His ranch was also getting rather untamed, the grass getting long and unkempt, and his house very sloppy like a bachelor pad.
Then, the Sunday before Easter, a man in his 30s came to the door. Mike was still in his pajamas when he answered.
May I help you? he yawned.
Hi! My name is Pastor Scott Drexel, and I am from the New Life Christian Church here in Farmers Branch
Before he could continue, Mike got a really nasty look on his face. He knew what was coming, a long sermon about how you should be at church every Sunday, pray, and read the Bible. He didnt want to hear it, he wasnt in the mood for this. Just as he was about to slam the door in Pastor Scotts face, the kind hearted Pastor stated,
Please, let me finish. Then you may slam the door if you wish.
With that, Mike opened the door cautiously, but with a curiosity. He let the Pastor in, and they started to converse.
Chapter five
I just wanted to let you know that our church is having an Easter play, put on by the teens and the young people of Farmers Branch. You dont have to come, but it would be wonderful if you decided to make a visit.
Ill think about it, Mike replied.
He started to think about the dilemma he is going through, and decided to ask, Say, Pastor Scott, can you tell me somethin about voices and a tuggin in your heart? I have been getting these ever since January 1, and its buggin me. I dont know how to figure it all out.
Mike offered the Pastor a seat on his rawhide couch, after clearing away all the paper and other junk that he has let sit there for the past couple of months. The Pastor sat down, and answered him.
That, my friend, is the Holy Spirit. God is telling you to do something, and you should always listen to that voice, as hard as that may be.
Holy Spirit? I dont really believe in all that kind of stuff. Things are supposed to be answered with common sense, and good hard thinkin for solutions.
Have you come up with an answer for your problems yet? The pastor asked him.
Ummm, well, no. Mike stammered. He knew that the Pastor was right after all. But he wasnt sure about all this religious stuff. How do you go about this? He was so confused at this point. Everything he had known before was crashing before him.
Then perhaps it is time to look to God for the answers. But its all up to you, Mike. God leaves us all the free will to do and to think as we wish. I suggest though, that you come to church next Sunday, to see what God has in store for you. I believe you might like it.
Mike carefully pondered this invitation, and figured, why not? Lets see what God has to say about things going on. Okay, Pastor Scott, you got yourself a deal.
Wonderful! I will see you next Sunday then!
As he left, Mike started to think maybe this whole religion thing may not be so bad after all.
Chapter six
The week came and went like the wind, and it was now Sunday. As Mike was fixing his silver cowboy type tie (note: hoping that you can picture what I mean by the description) that went nicely with his white shirt, brown suede jacket, blue jeans, and cowboy boots, he nervously wondered what church was going to be like. He has never stepped inside one, as his mother never took him to church. She never thought that kind of thing necessary.
He wondered what type of people would be there, how they would welcome him, if they would try to jam the message of God down his throat He wanted to find out though, so he wasnt going to back down on Pastor Scotts offer.
He went out the door and into his pickup. He made the two mile journey to the church, which isnt very far, considering most of Farmers Branch is ranches and farms.
The church was an old fashioned country church, white wood building with a steeple and a small but modest parking lot for the church attendees to park. Mike pulled in, and made his way up to the wooden steps to the chapel. Okay, he thought to himself, I can do this. Creek went the door, and he stepped inside, as confident as he could be despite the fact that he was very nervous.
Welcome, Mike! came a voice from the front of the chapel. It was Pastor Scott. He was in a conversation with a few other parishioners. They all looked at him with a very friendly and warm smile, and greeted him with the biggest welcome that he had ever heard.
Welcome! Mike replied, big Texas grin on his face. Such a welcome! I think I am going to like it here already!
Pastor Scott was enthralled to hear that, as were the parishioners that were in the room.
I am so glad to hear you say that, Mike! Mike, this is just a few of the people that are a part of the church family, there are a few more that will be here shortly. Its a small congregation, but we are like one big happy family, and it doesnt matter how many is in the church, its the Love of the Lord thats in your heart and the fellowship with other Christians that matters.
Hi, everyone, Im Mike Nesmith. Its very nice to meet you! He extended his hand and shook the hands of the people that were there.
He started to carry on a conversation with a couple of the people, talking about how he is very new to learning about God and the Bible, and how he wasnt raised in the church at all.
Mike, Id like to give you something. A man named Joshua spoke up. He was a short man in his late 40s who has been a Christian for about two years, but has become very knowledgeable in the Bible, and has become the churchs prayer leader, as he is very charismatic.
He pulled out a copy of the NIV (New International Version) Bible and said, Please take this as a gift from me to you. It is full of the answers you need, that is where I found my answers and between that and hearing the Good News spoken to me at this church, I gave my life to Christ two years ago.
Mike was flabbergasted, because a complete stranger had never given him a gift before, out of sheer kindness. There was always strings attached. He wasnt sure though how to go about reading it, what answers this would bring, and if he was ready to hear them. However, he was happy that someone he just met was so kind to him, and took the gift willingly.
Thank you so much, Joshua! I must admit, I am afraid to find out the answers that may be in these pages, and I dont know the first thing about reading a Bible, but no one has ever been so kind to me before. That means a lot to me.
If you need help, just ask, my new friend. We could study the Bible together sometime, if you like!
I would like that, Joshua. Mike was really starting to feel at home here.
He made a new friend in Joshua, and he also made friends with Joshuas friends, Maggie and Martha, who were identical twins. He was having a conversation with them about ranching. Turns out they work on their fathers ranch at the other end of Farmers Branch, and they offered to help Mike out twice a week with the morning chores, since their dad has help from part time ranch hands on those particular mornings. What wonderful people there are in this world, he thought!
Chapter seven
It was 9:45 AM and time for church. Sunday School class was at 8:30, but Mike decided to just try the church service for now. If he really enjoyed the sermon, he would definitely come back for the Sunday School class.
He sat down next to Joshua, who saved a seat at the pew for him. Maggie and Martha sat beside Mike as well. Pastor Mike got up on the pulpit, and began the service with the church choir singing some classic hymns: Amazing Grace, Thy Word, and What A Friend We Have In Jesus. Mike was singing along with the rest of the congregation, really enjoying the music. The choir had some really wonderful singers, and he listened to the words to the songs, and was becoming moved listening to them.
After collection was passed around, and Mike gave a generous offering, as he felt the need to do this, it was time for the message. It was about answering the call in your life, that tugging in your heart, which is the Holy Spirit telling you what you need to do to fulfill Gods Will in your life. He also went on to say, as well as quote from the Bible, that it is wrong to find the answers from fortune tellers, astrologers, and other earthly means that only provide either the wrong information, or will lead you on the wrong path, a path of destruction. The only way to true happiness is through God, the only answers are found through Him, there is no other way. He made the altar call, for those to come forward who have never received salvation from the blood of Christ, or for those who wish to rededicate their lives to serving Christ.
Mike was very hesitant. He listened to the message attentively, pondering everything which Pastor Scott had said and quoted from the Bible, and drinking it in. However, he was holding back, that common sense side of him was sending him messages of: no Mike, this is hogwash. Answers are found by the common sense: good thinking, deduction and reasoning, not something you cant see.
However, Mike was also getting that tugging at his heart, this time it was even stronger than it had ever been. He was hearing, come to me, you will find the answers you need, and you will find everlasting love.
The last calling for the altar call was announced, and Mike made up his mind. Im going up and doing this.
He went up to the altar and got on his knees. Joshua, Maggie, and Martha got up and kneeled beside him, praying with him the prayer of salvation. Mike prayed along, and asked forgiveness of all his sins, and said to the Lord that he wants to follow His Will and His Plans for his life, not his own any longer.
He got up a few minutes later and sat back down at the pew. He felt so alive, he had never felt that way before! He wanted to tell the world of his newfound self, of his new life with the Lord. He knew that it was going to be work though to get rid of the old ways, but he was more than willing to work on them.
After services, Pastor Scott went up to Mike and shook his hand. God Bless you, Mike. I am so glad you came today, and so wonderfully glad that you decided to give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Remember Mike, the road is going to be bumpy at times, but if you decide to join our family, we will be here to guide you through.
Thank you, Pastor Scott. Mike replied, with a big grin on his face. I must admit, I was torn about going up, but that tugging was the strongest it had ever been, and it said to go forward, so I did. I dont regret it.
Mike went home, so he could relax, and look at the Bible that his new friend gave him. After he absorbed a couple of the chapters that he read, which was a couple from the book of Job, as recommended by Joshua, he took a nap and decided to go to the Easter play.
Chapter eight A year later, April 2001
Its been a year since Mike gave his life to Christ, and it has been a rough road, albeit the best one hes ever had. He is getting better with adjusting to his new life, but those old habits die hard.
One of them is forgiveness. He hasnt yet contacted Micky, Peter, or Davy to extend his apologies for what happened. Same with Lillibeth. He has tried a couple times to give it over to God, so that He could take care of it, but his human pride keeps taking over, and he gets too stubborn to make the calls.
A week and a half after Easter, on a pleasantly warm April afternoon, Maggie and Martha had just left from helping him with the morning chores on the ranch. Mike started thinking about the conversation they had that morning. It was about surrendering all to God, and letting things go the way He wants them to be, not how you want them to be. He told them about the difficulty he was having letting go and forgiving his old friends and ex wife. They gave him the advice of totally sitting down in the quiet room, and immersing himself in prayer, letting go of everything that has been bothering him, and letting God take care of it all.
Mike thought what could it hurt? So he did just that. He sat smack in the middle of his living room floor, and totally focused on prayer. He gave all that he had to God, all the problems that had been plaguing him for years that he could never let go of. When he was finished, he felt a sudden feeling of peace come over him.
That was when he went over to his office, which was located right off of the living room. It was a spacious room, with souvenirs of places hes been when he was traveling with The Monkees, and Christian décor. A beautiful wooden cross clock hangs over his oak roll top desk. He sat down at the comfy chair, and pulled out a dusty address book. Inside was addresses of Micky, Davy, Peter, and a couple of his children. He would have to ask for Lillibeth and the other two childrens addresses. He was praying that they would give him that information.
When he called all the numbers found in his book, he found out that they all were outdated, and there was no forwarding numbers at all as to where they moved. He was downhearted, but he knew that it wasnt time yet. He knew that when God says its time, than that is when it shall happen.
That Sunday, he went to church. Pastor Scott told the congregation about Sonshine Fest 2001 in Los Angeles. It was a long way from Farmers Branch, but he explained that this was a wonderful festival where Christian speakers, and Christian music artists gather for four days and nights and have concerts, praise and worship time, and special events for all ages. There are a couple in Texas, but he told everyone about how wonderfully special this event is.
After service, the congregation gathered for a meeting about raising money for the event. Mike, seeing a perfect opportunity to reconnect with his friends and family, piped up.
I can pitch in for everyone who wants to go to the event.
Pastor Scott was flabbergasted at this statement, for Mike didnt even know the cost of the event for all who wanted to go, but he was very happy for his generosity all the same. Mike, thats wonderful news, but you dont even know how much this is all going to cost!
Money is no object, Pastor. Just let me know, and it will be taken care of.
Plans were made, and Mike gave Pastor Scott a check for the amount needed to go. The date for the festival was July 18-22, 2001 outside of Los Angeles, at one of the desert campgrounds. Mike was praying for Gods Will in this situation. If it was not time, however; he would just be content going to his first Christian festival.
Chapter nine Mickys story
Micky was sitting in the living room of his two bedroom apartment. It was New Years Day, 2000, and he was alone. He usually had girls at his place, being the Romeo that he is, but this time was different. He didnt want to celebrate New Years with anyone. He was feeling sad, sad about many things that have happened to him over the years.
The biggest thing he was sad about was the breakup of the band. Why did it have to end like that, he pondered intensely. We always got into tiffs, but worked through them and made up. The egos got too big, so making up was not an option for them at the time, especially for Micky. He thought he was the epitome of greatness, just because they had made it big again after all those years. While he knew that it was a great accomplishment, he realized that the way he acted wasnt the right way to be.
Then there were the divorces. The first one in 1976 to Sasha, the fiery red head, whom he had married in 1970. She was a lovely woman, so full of life and passion. They had their beautiful daughter Analiese in 1972, and she was their life. However; they fought too much, both being so spirited and temperamental. That marriage was bound to crumble, he knew that. He did love her though. Not as much, however, as he loved his second wife, Tracey Ann. They were married from 1980 to 1995, and had a wonderful relationship, until all the affairs Micky was having in the early 1990s, when the Monkees were making comeback tours. He knew in his heart that was such a horrible thing to do to her, but it had been too late. She found out about them all, and filed for a divorce in 1994. He tried to ask for reconciliation, but no was the answer. He didnt blame her, for he knew how much he hurt her.
They had three wonderful children: Sarah, who was born in 1980, Lisa, born in 1982, and Mike, born in 1984. Luckily, all four of his children are speaking to him, but its been hard.
For Analiese, she knows that the marriage between his mom and dad was a fiery one, so she is okay with the divorce. In fact, she considered Tracey Ann her second mom when they got married in 1980, and she was only 8 years old then. As for Sarah, Lisa, and Mike, they are taking it harder, but they love both their parents, and will always be there for them both.
He wondered if him and Tracey Ann could ever get back together again, even after all the heartbreak he caused her. He also wondered about Mike, Davy, and Peter, if he could ever make up with them again and become the band of amigos that they were before that night at Wembley.
Chapter ten
Something was nudging him to find them all and make amends for what he has done to them over the years. Sasha was easy to find, as she lives in Los Angeles, a stones throw away from where he is in West Hollywood. He wanted to say he was sorry to her also, but he just couldnt do it.
He shook it all off, and decided to go to bed early. So at 4:00 PM, he closed the shades in his bedroom, and nodded off.
At midnight, he woke up, since he had eight hours of sleep. It wasnt restful sleep though, as he kept tossing and turning, and thinking about the guys, Tracey Ann, and Sasha. Their faces were etched in his brain, and that nudging to go to them and say sorry.
This really bites. I have got to find out what is going on here. He reasoned.
He turned on the TV, trying to forget about the whole deal. Not so, as there was program after program of themes such as forgiving and forgetting, true friendship, true love, how to reconcile with your loved ones, how to repair a failing marriage, and so on. Micky was getting really frustrated at this point, but he settled on one of the channels, DIY (Do It Yourself, a home and garden type channel).
Wouldnt you know, a paid commercial was coming on right after This Old House. He got tired of trying to flip the channel, and was about to turn it off, when he heard a familiar voice. It was his old friend Cleopatra, a hippie in the 1960s. She was on a psychic hotline commercial, selling her 1 900 number and pleading people who have issues in their lives to call her, and she would tell them their future.
What could it hurt? he thought. I mean, what have I got to lose? As he said that, he went back to the old line that he and the guys would say, Our shirts! He laughed at that, then went to the phone to dial.
Welcome to Cleopatras psychic connection! Press 1 if you want to speak to one of our many licensed psychics who want to hear your problems and tell your futures. Press 2 if you would like to buy our Be Your Own Psychic and make millions book. Press 3 if you would like to donate to the Cleopatra psychic connection fund!
Micky hung up the phone, pissed as ever. How dare Cleopatra sell out like that? Especially with the hoax of psychic hotlines! Of course, Micky was being a sell out himself by buying into it. He realized this, and went back to bed, grumbling.
Chapter eleven
At 8:00 the next morning, Micky awoke to get ready to go to work, at the architecture firm of Lester & Schneider Inc., in downtown L.A.
He figured he would immerse himself in his work, to forget about his problems. When he got to the office at 9, however, he tried to start his work, which were two major projects going on concerning older buildings, but he couldnt. This nudging was getting worse, and he couldnt take it any longer.
At noon, he left for lunch at his fave hangout, Louies, for some chili dogs and Coke. After he scarfed those down, he decided to take a nice leisurely walk downtown and try to clear his head. That is when he came across a Salvation Army bell ringer, and decided to put in some change.
The friendly, older lady smiled graciously, and said, Thank you. She went to hand him a War Cry (a magazine that the Salvation Army puts out monthly and is commonly handed out when you donate money to the kettles).
Micky put out his hand, and replied abruptly, No, I dont read religious garbage.
Before he could walk on, the affable woman, who appeared to be in her mid 60s, answered with, That is fine, sir, but would you at least give it a try? If you dont like whats inside you can always throw it away.
Before he could say no again, she interrupted, Sir, before you say no again, like I know you might, I just want to say give it a try. You may just like whats inside. Again, if you dont, just get rid of it.
She extended the War Cry out to him, silently praying that he will accept the invitation to take one. Micky thought about this for a moment, knowing that he has been wondering whats been going on with that consistent nudging in his heart. But he has been wronged, his stepdad forced religion on him when he was younger, plus his dad died all too young. Since all this, he decided not to believe in God. The decision was a tough one for him, but he finally made up his mind.
Thank you, maam. I will take a look at this and see what it has to say.
Oh, thats wonderful, sir! You wont be disappointed. God Bless you.
He had a few minutes left for his lunch break, so he brisked back to his office, and decided to give it a look and see what this all had to say.
Chapter twelve
Micky turned the pages of the War Cry, and inside was an article about a guy who was in a predicament quite a bit like his: he was twice divorced, a father of 4 (but 2 were from one marriage, and 2 were from the other), and had been wronged in the past by a stepfather (in this case, he was beaten), best friends, and a couple of clergymen who tried to push religion on him. This caught Mickys attention and he attentively read the whole story.
The man went through nearly his whole life being sarcastic, hateful, and angry at God, for all the things that happened to him. This caused him to have a hardened heart, and a sour disposition. He also made many bad choices in life because of this. But one day, a Salvation Army kettle worker in his town asked him to take a War Cry and read it. He did, and after reading a story about how much Jesus loves even someone like him, and how he too can have eternal life through Jesus and happiness through Him, he decided to go to a Salvation Army church service one Sunday and see what it was all about. The man ended up going to the altar and giving his life to God that very day. Now, he is a man with a happy and warm heart. He has repaired all the fences that were broken with family and friends, and now he is an editor for a Christian mens magazine.
Micky pondered this, can I too be happy like this man? He went through the same things as me, more or less. I think I am going to go to a Salvation Army myself and see if I can get the same kind of message. I wonder if Jesus really does love even someone like me.
On the next Sunday, he drove to the nearest Salvation Army, which was about 1 mile away. He was really nervous, he wondered if this was really the right thing to do. That nudging was there, really strong, like he is supposed to be there. So, Micky pulled himself together, and strode into the chapel. As he looked around, he saw all kinds of people, from different walks of life. They seemed so full of smiles, as they were chatting with others from the congregation before the meeting started.
A younger man in his 30s, with light brown hair, and wearing the familiar Salvation Army uniform, walked up to Micky and extended his hand.
Welcome! Im Captain Wakefield! So glad to have you here this morning!
Hi, Im Micky, Micky Dolenz. Micky shook his hand, it was a powerful grip.
Nice to meet you, Micky! I hope you can stay with us for the meeting today, its good to see new people come to our corp.!
He led Micky around the room, which was a medium sized chapel, with an altar and podium at the front. He introduced him to all the people that were there, each greeting him with a genuine smile, hello, and handshakes. Micky liked this, the people were very friendly so far. He even got into a conversation about cars, with a couple guys from the congregation. They didnt just talk all religion, interesting, he thought.
He even found the wonderful lady who gave him the War Cry the other day. She spotted him, and shot him a very welcome smile, and she beamed, Hello! I am so happy to see you here!
Micky grinned. Hi, I read a fascinating article in there about a man who was in a somewhat similar situation as mine, and I figured I would come see what God has to say to a person like me. By the way, I didnt get your name.
She replied, My name is Genevieve. Ive been coming to the corp. for 5 years now, and it was the best decision I ever made in my life. What is your name?
Micky. I think I may have made the right decision after all. Thanks so much for prodding me to try reading that War Cry.
Dont thank me, Micky. Thank God. He wanted you to see that story in the War Cry. God has a Plan for each of us. You may not totally see that yet, but my prayer is that you do. God Bless you, Micky, and I sure hope that you will start coming to the church.
She made her way to talk to some of her friends at the other side of the chapel. Micky carefully thought about what she said, and for once in his life he actually was beginning to believe it.
His thoughts were cut short when from the corner of his eye, he saw a familiar face come in with a tall, handsome man. He turned around sharply to find
Chapter thirteen
Tracey Ann! She goes to this church? Mickys heart was racing, he didnt know whether to bolt out a back door or face her. She found another man? He was starting to boil with anger, but he knew he was in a church, and he couldnt act out what he was feeling. He was also sad, because he knew that this could very well be the end of him having another chance with her. He looked at them and noticed they were hand in hand, and genuinely happy together, by the way their facial expressions were when they looked at each other, and laughed together. Micky knew when Tracey Ann was happy also, since they were married for so long.
He was hoping that she didnt spot him, as he wasnt sure if he wanted to face her at this moment. He was worried he would cause a scene.
As he was about to look for a back door to quietly and nonchalantly escape, Captain Wakefield walked up to him.
Is there something wrong, Micky?
Micky didnt want to talk to a pastor about what was going on, but he decided that perhaps he should. Yes. See that woman over there talking with that distinguished looking man?
Yes. Thats Tracey Ann and her fiancee Philip. Why?
Because Tracey Ann is my ex-wife, and lets just say that our divorce five years ago was a rather painful and horrifying one. We havent spoken since.
Ah, I see. Remarked the captain. Step into my office for a couple minutes, we can talk there if you like?
Micky went in with Captain Wakefield, and told him the whole story of why they divorced, and why they didnt speak to each other since. Captain Wakefield told him that Tracey Ann has been coming to the church for 6 months now with Philip, her fiancee, and she has made great strides in how she is handling her anger about her divorce.
You mean she has discussed this with you? Micky asked, somewhat shocked, for Tracey Ann never really discussed much with anyone.
Yes, she comes to see me once a week for counseling, as I am also a Christian counselor.
God has brought you here for a number of reasons, Micky. I pray that you come to see the Goodness of the Lord, and that He will never leave nor forsake you, or do anything on purpose to hurt you. Its all done as a test of your faith.
Captain prayed with Micky, and as they left the office, he took a seat at the front of the chapel with his new friend Jon that he was talking to about cars and architecture. He was going to give this all a try, he was beginning to think that God does care about him after all, and loves him very much.
Micky went up to the altar after Captains sermon. He decided he was going to go up and pray to God for forgiveness of all his sins. He wanted to start a new life and learn to love God and follow His Plan for his life. He felt wonderful after giving all his problems to God, and asking for forgiveness, like the weight of the world was lifted off his shoulders. He then went back to his seat.
Tracey Ann didnt notice him until the altar call. She thought, what in the world is he doing here? But then she realized that she was being selfish and mean, so she sent up a prayer to the Lord to guide her through this time. It had been 5 years since they had seen or spoken to each other, and she had gotten over the bulk of the pain, but seeing him again had started to make it surface.
When a peace had come over her, she started to pray for Micky that he found salvation, and that they would be able to peacefully talk to each other.
After the service, she told Philip about what was going on, as they could tell each other anything, and she told him to wait while she tried to talk to him.
As Micky was getting his jacket and getting ready to go, he heard that familiar voice behind him.
Chapter fourteen
Hi Micky.
He turned about face to find Tracey Ann standing in front of him with a smile on her face. She was dressed to the nines in a lavender two piece pantsuit, with black flats, her blondish brown hair done up in a bun.
Hi Tracey Ann, its been a long time. He was so nervous, he prayed that this would turn out well.
Micky, I am surprised to see you here. It seems to be like its Gods Plan that we met like this. She was hoping he felt the same way, she knew how he would get miffed in the past for comments like that, since his sister is a pastor.
Yes, I am beginning to see that. I gave my life to God a few minutes ago, and I have to say that this is a really wonderful feeling! I feel so much lighter now! he exclaimed.
That is so wonderful! You know, I prayed for you when I saw you up there. I must admit though, I started to think badly when I first saw you.
I was wondering if you would like the fact that you saw me here today, Tracey Ann. I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that I never, ever meant to hurt you while we were married. Can you forgive me for all the rotten things I did?
Yes, Micky, I can. Six months ago, I wouldnt have been able to tell you that. Since I started coming here, and found salvation through Jesus my savior, I have learned a lot about forgiveness, and about giving all my feelings to the Lord to take care of. I pray that you can forgive me too, for not speaking to you for so long?
Yes, I can, Tracey Ann. Would you like to go out for lunch, so we can talk? You can bring your boyfriend with you.
Hes my fiancee. His name is Philip, hes really a great guy, Micky. We have been together for a year now, and we got engaged a couple months ago. He started taking me to church here, and I am so glad that he did. Yes, thank you for the invite. I will see if he would like to go along with us. If not, he can fend for himself for a while.
Micky was still kind of sad that Tracey Ann had already found someone, but he quickly realized how happy she really seemed. Her face brightened up when she was talking about him, and when she went over to him to tell him what was going on, they had just that glow about them. He wanted her to be happy, thats all that mattered.
She danced over to him and chirped, Okay, lets go! Philip said he would like to meet you, but he will next time, since he knows about our situation, and he figures we need to talk privately. Is that okay?
Sure, thats great Tracey Ann. Wanna go to Louies? he joked.
Louies?! You still go there? Let me guess, chili dogs and a coke, right? She laughed, for she remembers him going there every day it seemed when they were married.
Yep, sure do! Just kidding though. Why dont we go to Spagos?
While having lunch, the two started talking about everything that has been going on with them over the past 5 years, and soon they were conversing like a couple of old friends.
Micky, I am really glad that God has brought us back together, but now as friends. She remarked. What do you think?
I think so too. But now I need to patch things up with Mike, Davy, and Peter., sighed Micky.
Mick, you need to get hold of them somehow. You will feel so much better once you all have forgiven each other and settled your differences. Look how well it turned out between you and I. I bet it would be just as great!
You know what, Trace? I think I will do that! I miss them so much, they are like brothers to me. I dont even know why we fought in the first place, it was so stupid.
Let me know how things work out, okay? Philip and I will see you again next Sunday?
Yes, definitely! I would like to take you both out then, that good?
Yes. I will let Philip know. He wants to meet you, and he said he hopes that you guys can become good friends.
Cool! Ill see ya next week Trace!
Bye, Mick! Tracey Ann and Micky left the restaurant and both went to their own homes.
Chapter fifteen A little over a year later, in April 2001
Micky has been a Christian now for 15 months, and this has been the best year of his life. He started a beautiful friendship with Tracey Ann and Philip, became closer to his three kids with her, Sarah, Lisa, and Mike, and was able to find Sasha through Analiese and ask for forgiveness.
She could care less, as she was now an exotic dancer in Vegas (she looked great at 55 years old, or so she figured, with all the plastic surgery she went through to get it), and was in a stormy but passionate affair with a married man. Micky didnt care anyhow, he was just happy that he was able to ask for forgiveness and forgive her too.
He was still very close to Analiese, and thats what mattered to him from that union. Analiese was able to become good friends again with Tracey Ann, and now with Philip, plus she started hanging out with the other kids as well. They were like a happy extended family again.
The only thing that wasnt happening was getting in contact with Mike, Davy, and Peter. He tried this whole time looking for them: on the Internet, in phone books, through people in L.A. that once knew them. Nothing. He was ready to give up totally on that search, but Tracey Ann reminded him about patience being a virtue, and everything going according to Gods Plan.
Youre right, Trace, but do you really think I can find them if I tried yet again? Micky wondered.
I bet you can, Mick. Its been 3 months since you have tried, maybe the online phone books have updated, or perhaps the Google search will turn up something. Give it a go, Micky, what could you lose?
OUR SHIRTS! They both exclaimed, laughing. They both remembered the joke at the same time, they had a habit still of completing the others thoughts or thinking something at the same time.
Ill give it a try. I really want to see them again, they were always like brothers to me. Mike and I were best buds too. I really miss them all.
So Micky got on the computer and started his Internet search. He first went into Google and typed in Mikes name, then all the others. Nothing, except a bunch of fan pages with no real recent kind of information, as most of the die hard fans now were anxiously waiting for some sort of reconciliation to happen.
He then decided to check the online phone books. On a whim, he typed Michael Nesmith, Farmers Branch TX. He figured, its a long shot, but hey, you never know!
Chapter sixteen
Guess what happened??? He found a listing for a R.M. Nesmith in Farmers Branch. Could this be? He knew that Mike always despised his first name, Robert. But the initials matched. Micky copied down the number, and nervously picked up his cell phone.
The phone rang about 3 times, and a man with a definite Texan accent picked up.
Hello?
Hello, Mike? Micky stuttered, trying to gain composure, as he wasnt sure if he was going to hang up on him, for he knew how temperamental Mike could be.
Yeah? Who is this? You sound familiar.
Its M Micky. How are you? He cautiously asked, expecting a hang up.
Micky! How are ya, shotgun?! beamed Mike.
Im doing great, how are you?
Just great! I have been trying to get in touch with you, Peter, and Davy for a while now, and I found nothing. I am so glad that you found me! It paid to use the white pages!
Micky laughed, breathing a sigh of relief that Mike was happy to hear from him. Yeah, it sure did! I have been searching for you guys too, for 15 months now. I have something to tell ya, Mike.
Mike replied, Go ahead, shotgun. I have something to tell ya too, but you go first.
Micky explained all the things that have happened to him over the past 5 years, and especially over the past 15 months. He asked Mike for forgiveness, and he asked if they could be friends again. Mike couldnt believe that they both had been saved in the same year, only within a couple months of each other. He forgave Micky, then proceeded to tell him his story. Micky forgave him, and they began chatting like they did back in the late 60s at the old pad.
Hey, Mick! Im gonna be in L.A. at a Christian festival called Sonshine Fest. Its July 18-22, and I would like to meet you there.
That would be cool, Mike! I have heard of that fest, I think Captain Wakefield was talking about it last Sunday. Id love to meet you there. In fact, Ill tell Tracey Ann, her fiancee Philip, and all the kids about it. They would all love to see you.
Great! Ill talk to ya later, shotgun! So good to hear from you again!
You too, Mike. Ive missed you so much. You were always my best friend.
Mine too, Mick. Hey, we should search for the other two together through the Internet. You game?
Yeah, that would make it a lot easier! Talk to ya later!
Bye.
They hung up the phone, and Micky was so happy that he found Mike and they were going to meet again in July. Now to find Davy and Peter
Chapter Seventeen Davys story
Its a snowy New Years Day on Davys Eastern Pennsylvania horse farm. Davy just came in from grooming his four racing horses, and is headed over to the Great Room to sit and warm up. He was alone and he started thinking about his life.
He was married three times, and has three children: Deanna, from his first marriage to a woman named Larissa, Brie, from his second marriage to Andrea, and Belinda, his daughter to Lucie, his third wife.
Larissa was a woman that Davy loved and hated, it was a stormy and intense relationship. They never planned on getting married, but Deanna was born in 1968, and so Davy and Larissa had to. The union only lasted two years. The divorce was a really bad one, so bad that it made papers. The Monkees were just making a name for themselves nationwide, and the other three band members were ready to break up over this. Luckily Davy and Larissa settled their dispute and they were able to put that behind them and make a success in the music world. Unfortunately, Deanna was a toddler that was being shuffled back and forth until finally custody went to Larissa.
Deanna didnt get to see her dad until 1986, when she graduated from high school. They became very close, despite Larissas efforts to stop it. Deanna married a very kindhearted man, who was a teacher of music by day and a blues musician by night, named Jon. They married in 1989, and have a son named Dustin, who is six years old. Davy loves him and spoils him like any grandfather would spoil their grandchild. Larissa wants nothing to do with Dustin, or with Deanna, because they talk to Davy. Deanna, Jon, and Dustin live in southern California, so they come out to Pennsylvania about 4 times a year.
In 1971, Davy married a spirited, but down to earth, woman named Andrea. They met and married within a month, but they had such strong convictions that this was a lifetime thing for them. They were wrong, they realized after six months that they didnt take the time to get to know each other well enough. But, it was too late to do anything about that, Andrea was pregnant with their daughter Brie, who was born in early 1972. They stayed married until 1985, but realized that they were only staying together for the benefit of Brie. Brie realized this, and asked them if they wanted to split. That was a rarity for a child to say that, but Brie was the type that she valued honesty. She wanted to see her parents truly happy, so they both made the decision to divorce. It was an amicable one, they were still friends as of a couple years ago, but they lost touch somehow. Brie doesnt understand that one, but she loves both her parents the same.
Brie is engaged to a construction business owner named Cal. He lives in a town nearby to Beavertown, called Sunbury. Brie lives with her dad on the farm, as she shares a passion of horses with him. She doesnt ride, but she helps groom them, and all their other needs. She has a degree in veterinary medicine, so she is also a farm vet, going around to all the local farms, taking care of all the animals.
In 1990, Davy married Lucie, a woman who was brainy and beautiful. She knew this too, and was known to be a real tease. Davy couldnt resist her, and she teased for awhile, then realized that she was really in love with him. They had Belinda in 1992. Davy and Lucie were married until 1998, but they split after they couldnt have another baby. They constantly fought about it, and it put a strain on their marriage. Belinda lives with her mother over in a town called Selinsgrove, about a half hour south from Beavertown. (ED. NOTE: I have to do some research on the location, if I am wrong, I will correct and re-send) Davy gets visitation rights with Belinda, she comes to the farm every weekend. Belinda loves the horses, and she loves spending time with Davy and Brie. She also loves seeing Deanna, Jon, and Dustin when they come to visit. Shes very close to Dustin, since they are only two years apart.
Davy still loves Lucie (ED NOTE: That is NOT meant to be a pun! It came out that way! So enjoy! LOL!), and he realizes it was so stupid of him to just divorce her because they couldnt have another child. She was 42 when she had Bel, by the time they started trying again in 1996, she was already 46. They both wanted to have another baby so much, they wanted to have a complete family. A little brother or sister for Bel. But when menopause struck in 1997, they knew that was it. They fought constantly after that, blaming each other for something that is just part of nature.
They are still friends, but Davy wants her back in his life. He is a man of pride though. He doesnt want to admit that he made a mistake by letting her go due to those kind of circumstances that cant be helped. So he goes on, acting aloof when she drops Bel off on Friday afternoons when she gets off of school, and on Sunday afternoons. He didnt know if she felt the same way for him, she acted aloof as well.
Then there was Mike, Micky, and Peter. Why did he have to act like a Mr. Know-It-All that day at Wembley? He told them that he knew how the playlist should go and that they didnt know a hole from the ground. He even started on Peter, his best friend, with all the dumb jokes. He had really hurt him that day, and he now realizes that he was being a jackass. But what could he do? The damage was done, and he doesnt want them to know that he, of all people, made a mistake. He had an image to uphold.
Just then, he heard a voice telling him to wise up, and to ask forgiveness of the people in your life that you have wronged. He shook it off, thinking it was a random kind of thing. It got worse and worse, until he sighed, and went to bed.
Ill sleep it off, he figured.
It was only 4:00 PM, but he went up to bed anyhow. He figured he had to get up early anyhow to ride the horses for their trial runs.
Chapter Eighteen
Davy awoke at 4:00 AM, and decided to make some coffee and sat at the dining room. That voice inside was getting harder and harder to ignore, and Davy got to the point where he couldnt take it any longer.
Wise up, you need to ask for forgiveness. You want to act like a fool forever? the voice kept saying.
A fool? Davy exclaimed to himself. I like things to be just so, that is not being a fool.
Forgiveness, Davy, ask for forgiveness.
At 4:30, Brie woke up, and came downstairs. She was getting ready to go out and check the horses, when Davy asked her to sit down.
What is it, Dad?
Brie, have you ever gotten a voice inside your head that constantly tells you to do something?
Sure, thats called a conscience., Brie replied. Why?
Because ever since yesterday afternoon, I have had a voice inside telling me to ask for forgiveness and to not be a fool forever.
Brie nodded her head. She somehow had a feeling that she would have this kind of talk with her dad sooner or later. She had been praying constantly for her dad to realize that he cant go on being so stubborn and foolish about the people around him and the way he does things. Her prayers were being answered, and she silently praised God.
Brie is a born again Christian. She and her mother started attending a church when she was a teenager, and she became saved when she was 21. She reads the Bible daily, and prays. Davy doesnt want to hear any of that, so he just shoos her off when she has talked to him about Salvation.
Dad, I know you wont want to hear this, but it is God telling you something.
Oh come on, Brie. Thats rubbish. Davy angrily replied.
Dad, its not rubbish. Its the honest truth. It is the Holy Spirit talking to you to repent of your sins and become saved through the Blood of Jesus. I never believed all that either until the day I turned 21, and I went to the altar and asked Jesus into my heart.
You went to that church for five years before that, Brie. How come it took you so long? Davy asked, becoming interested for once.
Because I was being stubborn. I listened to the message that was being presented, but I didnt let it affect me, until I realized that the only way to soften my heart was through letting God in. Dad, you know me as an honest soul. I tell you this, its the best feeling in the world to know that the Lord is in your life.
I dont know Brie. I have been a crusty man for so many years, Mr. Perfectionist, and show off. How can God change someone like me?
He can change anyone. He has saved lepers, alcoholics, drug addicts, mean spirited people, hobos, you name it. Think about it Dad. I wont talk about it any further, I just want to think about what I said, ok? Brie said, kissing him on the forehead.
Ive gotta go out and feed the horses, before you go and take them for a ride.
Okay, Brie. See you in a bit.
Davy thought about what Brie said. It did make sense to him, but he wasnt sure about the whole thing with God, Faith, and the things that were in the Bible. Was it all real? He had always followed the horoscopes, and went along with what they had to say. Brie had always told him that horoscopes were nothing but a bunch of hooey and a work of the devil. He would always just dismiss what she said, and continue to follow. But he also knew that Brie was not a dishonest person, and she wouldnt just make stuff up. He continued thinking about it, until that day in March when he finally made up his mind that he was going to do something about it.
Chapter Nineteen
March was a time of new beginnings: the snow was melting, the robins were coming out and singing their song of Spring, and two new foals were born at the Jones farm. Brie and Davy were very busy taking care of the two new foals, named Amber and Sunshine. Belinda was over every weekend, begging her daddy and mommy to let her take one home with her, but she knew that she couldnt because her and Lucie lived in a home on only ˝ acre of land.
Brie and Cal were set to be married at the end of the month, and she was making last minute preparations for the wedding, which was to be at the farm. Deanna had come in for the whole month with Dustin, while Jon had to stay behind so he could teach until the time of the wedding, when he could get a week off.
Deanna and Brie were the best of friends. Bries mom Andrea was like a mom to her, since Larissa had decided never to talk to her again. They both spent the entire month picking colors, baking and freezing food, going to get the wedding gown, all the other preparations that are needed for a wedding.
About six days before the wedding, Deanna and Brie were making food for the celebration. Brie found this the perfect time to tell her about the conversation her and Davy had a couple months before, since he was out with Belinda and the horses. Deanna is a born again Christian also, she started attending church with Jon and Dustin three years ago and went up to the altar. So Brie knew that she could tell this to her.
Dee, Ive got to tell you something wonderful. Brie gushed.
What is it?
I talked to Dad a couple months ago, and he was hearing a voice in his head, the voice of God. It was saying to ask for forgiveness.
Oh really? Deanna answered. Knowing how her father is, she continued, I bet he thinks its all rubbish, and didnt want you talking to him about God and the Holy Spirit.
Yeah, at first, but then he asked about my story, Dee. I told him about how wonderful Salvation is, and that it would be great for him to think about it.
Do you think that he has?
Oh yeah, I can just tell. As to whether or not he will act on it, I am not sure.
Only time will tell, Brie. We should both pray about this.
They took the time to say a prayer about it, and then they continued baking and cooking for the wedding.
Chapter Twenty
On March 28, 2000, the wedding of Brie Jones and Calvin Montgomery took place at the Jones farm in Beavertown. There were about 200 guests, including Bries mom Andrea, her half sister Teresa (Andrea remarried in 1990), and her stepdad Lee.
She had the minister from her church, the Reverend Rob Moore, do the ceremony, and Davy walked her down the aisle.
It was a beautiful wedding, and Davy cried when he gave away his beautiful daughter, who was dressed in a full length lace gown with floral garnish around the sleeves and the neck line.
After the wedding, at the reception, which was still at the house, Reverend Moore and Davy got into a conversation. Davy found this the right time to ask him about the voice he kept hearing.
That is the Holy Spirit telling you that you must ask for forgiveness for your sins. Reverend answered.
This is what Brie has told me, in so many words. I told her it was rubbish.
Do you feel that it is rubbish?
I dont know anymore, Reverend. I have been pondering this whole thing for two months or more now, and I am beginning to think that its not. What do I do?
Its not ultimately up to me, Davy. The reverend explained, but continued, Its up to you. God gave us all a free will to decided whether or not to believe. You need to have a heart to heart talk with God. I will be praying for you, Davy.
How do I do that? Davy curiously asked, never really having talked to God before.
Find a quiet place where no one is around, and just talk to him. No special way is required.
After everyone left the party, and Brie and Cal left for their honeymoon to Hawaii, Davy sat alone in the Great Room of the house, and just started talking to God about everything. It started to come naturally to him, and he poured out all his emotions.
God, I am so sorry for all the hurt I have caused all these people. I just get so picky about things, and then I think I am right, so I feel I have to put others down. What do I do?
Just then, the voice said, ask for forgiveness, Davy.
It finally occurred to Davy that he was to ask forgiveness from God for his sins, like the Reverend told him, and like Brie was trying to explain to him back in January. So that is exactly what he did. It did feel great, like Brie told him! It felt like the world was lifted off of his shoulders! He wanted to be a part of this new world, a world with God in it always. He couldnt wait to tell everyone the news! But he did know that he would have to wait a week to tell Brie, since he didnt want to contact them during their honeymoon.
Chapter Twenty One
The next day, when Deanna and Jon came to the house, Davy couldnt hold the excitement of what happened yesterday, so he told them straight away.
I have found the Lord! It happened last night after the party, I sat down and spilled my guts out to Him and asked for forgiveness. It feels exhilarating!
Deanna and Jon were so happy for Davy, theyve both been praying for this for a long time. Dad, thats wonderful news! Praise God! Weve been praying for this, and our prayers have been answered! What a wonderful day this is! Deanna exclaimed, hugging her dad.
Jon shook his hand and gave him a hug. Thats great Dad. Are you going to try going to a church?
Davy hadnt really thought about this. He knew that Brie and Cal went to a church in Sunbury, but he wasnt sure which one. He could probably go with them.
I could go with Brie and Cal. What is the church they go to?
Its a non-denominational Christian church. I have been there, and its a wonderful place to worship. Brie and Cal will definitely want you to go with them. Deanna answered.
Theres so much for me to do! I need to tell the world about my new found salvation, I need a Bible, I need to just shout for joy! Davy exclaimed excitedly, like a boy in a candy store.
Dad, we can go to the Bible bookstore over in Selinsgrove, they have lots of Bibles to choose from. Oh and you can witness to all you see while were out, people need to hear the story and that God is so wonderful. Be warned though, Dad, some may not want to hear it, like you didnt before. Deana stated.
Oh, I know, Dee. I want to do this though, I want to listen to what God is telling me. No longer do I want to do what I want to do, know what I mean?
Yep, sure do Dad. Cmon lets go!
They all went to Selinsgrove that day and had a fun time at the bookstore. Davy got a King James Version Bible, and got to witness to a number of people while he was there. It felt so good for him to tell his story. Some listened and said Amen, while some ignored him. That was okay though, Davy wanted people to hear him no matter what some thought. He knew what it was like not to listen, and he silently prayed that those people would open their hearts and ears and listen.
Chapter twenty two
A week passed, and Brie and Cal came back from their honeymoon, all refreshed and ready to start their jobs again. Brie was still assisting her dad on the farm and making vet calls to all the area farms, while Cal was starting to get some construction jobs since the weather was starting to warm up again. They both now live at Cals house in Sunbury, but of course Brie is with her dad every day at the farm.
She was so tickled to hear the news about her dad, she hugged him and didnt let go for a half hour! J He told her he bought a Bible and he asked if they could get together and do a Bible study once a week. They set the date for Friday nights, it would be her, Davy, Cal, and Bel, since she wanted to learn more about the Bible.
Davy wanted to ask Lucie also, but he didnt know what she would say. He still has feelings for her, but he knows how much of a cad he was while they were married, and would she ever want to get back together with him after what he did? Probably not, he figured. He figured he would ask Brie, see what she said he should do.
Ask her, Dad. I am sure that she would say yes.
Why do you think that?
I have seen the way she looks at you when she comes to drop Bel off on Fridays and when she is here to pick her up on Sundays. She gets a glazed look in her eyes, like she misses you and wants you back in her life.
Really? Why hasnt she said so? Davy asked.
I am sure she feels the same way you do about asking, think about it! Brie replied, nudging him on the arm.
Yeah, duh! Davy laughed. So I should ask her?
Yeah, go for it. Then maybe start to strike up conversations here and there.
Friday afternoon arrived quickly, and Lucie was there to drop off Belinda. Before Lucie turned around to go down the steps, Davy spoke up.
Lucie? I need to ask you something.
Lucie was quite shocked, as Davy never really said a whole lot to her, unless it had to do with Bel.
Yes?
Um, would you like to come to Bible study with Bel, Brie, Cal, and myself? Its here at the house.
I dont know, Davy. When is it? Lucie cautiously replied, not wanting to show the true feelings she was going through, which was excitement that Davy wanted to spend some time with her, even with other people around.
Its tonight at 8:00.
Okay, Ill come. Ill be here around 7:45 then. When she turned around, she whispered a yes!
Lucie?
Yes?, she turned around quickly, straightening her excited look to a serious one.
Why dont you just stay? This way, you dont have to waste the gas going all the way to Selinsgrove and back. Davy couldnt believe he just asked this, but he was praying that yes was her answer.
Okay, Ill stay.
Now Davy did a silent yes! after hearing those words. He opened the door for her, and they all had dinner together, which was Vegetarian lasagna and garlic bread.
They all got to talk, and Lucie was really enjoying herself. She could see a change in Davy, she really liked it. She prayed that he would stay that way, because she really missed him, and hoped for a reconciliation. She wanted to take it slow though, because she isnt sure of his feelings for her just yet. Though she has her suspicions that he feels the same way.
Bible study was very interesting, they studied the life of Paul, and they learned a lot about how when he was Saul, he was persecuting the Christians, but when he saw Christ while walking on the road, and became saved, the drastic turn he took. He started traveling, preaching the word of God. It reminded Davy of himself somewhat.
Lucie asked if she could come to the Bible studies from now on, and Davy said, Yes, wed love it if you did.
Bel was beyond herself, because she has wanted her mommy and daddy back together since the divorce, so she was praying that things could work out for them. Brie and Cal winked at her, because they knew that was what she was praying for.
Davy asked Brie to go to the kitchen for a minute, so he could ask her something. She did, and Davy asked, Can you and Cal watch Bel for a bit? I need to talk to Lucie. I want to tell her how I feel.
Brie replied enthusiastically, Sure! No problem! We can all play Scrabble, Bels been wanting to play that with us since we got back, hee, hee! Dad, Ill be praying for you!
Thanks so much, hon! Davy kissed her on the cheek and gave her a hug.
They went back out to the Great Room, and Davy said to Lucie, Cmon, lets go!
Lucie was stunned. Where? Where are you
Shhh!, Davy said. Youll find out.
They got their jackets on and went outside into the early April evening. Davy stopped by Lucies car, and turned to face her.
Lucie, theres something I want to tell you.
What is it, Davy? Lucie was anxiously awaiting the words she longed to hear.
I am so sorry for the way I treated you while we were married, and even up to now. I lived a different life, up until last week. Since I have found God, things for me are changing for the better. I want you, Lucie. If we get back together, I would devote my life to God and to you, not to having flings wherever I went. I really mean that too, Im not just saying that like I would have before.
Lucie was flabbergasted. She was waiting for this moment, but she wasnt sure if it was truly going to happen. She was waiting for someone to pinch her, as if it was just a dream. No pinches, she thought happily. Its not a dream!
Lucie? Davy was now starting to wonder if he shouldve said anything.
Mmm? Oh Davy, I forgive you. I have always loved you, I just was being gun-shy, because of the hurt you did put me through, and I put up a defense barrier. But I realize that you truly have changed, and I want to give you and I another try. But Davy? I dont want us to get remarried right away. I want us to start completely over. Can you agree to that?
At first, Davy wasnt sure about that, as he had figured they would pick up where they left off. But then he thought about it, and he realized that it would be best for them to start over, get to know each other all over again, and build a solid relationship.
Yes Lucie, I can. May I take you out to dinner then?
Id love that, Davy. What about Bel?
Shes just fine. Brie and Cal are inside playing Scrabble with her. Shes been wanting to play with them and beat them at it since they came back! Davy laughed.
So they went out to dinner at a nice restaurant in Sunbury that Brie had recommended to him, and they spent the next couple of hours just catching up. They had such a lovely time. Since Davy took her in his car, he drove her down to Selinsgrove to her house and dropped her off.
See you Sunday! Would you like to go out then? Davy chirped
Yes, Id love that! But can Brie watch Bel?
Im sure she can, but I will clear that with her and Ill call you tomorrow. Bye, til Sunday!
She closed the door to her house, and Davy skipped to the car and drove back to the farm.
Chapter Twenty Three A Year Later, April 2001
A year has come and gone quickly. Davy and Lucie are still dating, they go out every Friday and Sunday, after Bible study and church. They are all going to the non-denominational church that Brie and Cal have gone to, and love being a part of the family there.
Speaking of Brie and Cal, they found out in March that they are expecting their first child in middle December. So the whole family is thrilled about that. Davy of course is telling everyone wherever he goes, along with his story of salvation. Some have even given their lives to Christ after hearing his story, others have told him off. It doesnt phase him though, he knows he is doing the Lords Work by telling the story. It can be difficult some days, but he just prays daily for guidance that he doesnt slip and let it get the best of him.
The one weekend, in late April, Davy had a race in West Virginia. He was taking Amber with him, as she became his best racing horse. He asked just Lucie to go with him this time, instead of her and Bel, like usual when he has a race. He cleared this with Brie, and she and Cal agreed to keep her at their house in Sunbury. Bel didnt mind, she was 9 years old now and wanted her mommy and daddy to be able to spend as much time together, she was just so excited that they are back together again.
Dad, what are you up to? Brie questioned.
Oh, youll find out when we get back, as long as things turn out well. Davy grinned.
Dad, youre not
Shhh, I dont want Lucie do hear you. Yes, I am.
Oh Dad! Brie squealed, but Davy put his hand over her mouth.
Shhh!
